LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS

Image

The Clippers have been in the Lakers shadow since forever and during preseason, new GM Keith Brown guranteed that they wouldn't be overlooked this year. Not only did he gurantee that, but he also guranteed they would make the NBA playoffs. Will Brown and his team live up to these gurantees? Or will the Clippers find themselves lottery bound yet again?

Clippers head to Indiana for season opener
Will new GM's gurantee make things worse?
October 28th, 2004

The Los Angeles Clippers head to Indiana for their first game of the season, and it won't be an easy one. After losing the bidding war for Kobe Bryant and failing to re-sign Quentin Richardson, you have to wonder if the Clippers stand a chance. Looking at this team on paper, you'd think they didn't stand a chance at winning anything. But that isn't what GM Keith Brown says, who was hired just weeks ago after the former GM resigned. "I have faith in this team and there's no doubt in my mind they will live up to the gurantee.", said Brown on his pre-season gurantee.

The Indiana Pacers had the best record in the NBA last year and are looking to make the finals after losing to the NBA Champion Pistons in the Eastern Confrence finals. This could be Reggie Miller's last season and his teammates have said they'll try to make sure he ends his career with a ring. We will see rookie PG Shaun Livingston for the first time tonight, who will back up Marko Jaric. Expect this game to be more of a defensive game than offensive, and expect for the two star fowards, Brand and
O'Neal to go at it.

STARTING LINEUPS

Los Angeles Clippers

PF - Elton Brand
SF - Corey Maggette
SG - Kerry Kittles
PG - Marko Jaric

Miller Time shows up but Clippers hold on
Elton Brand led the Clippers to a 99-92 victory
October 28th, 2004

People thought this would be a defensive matchup but it was far from that, it was a high scoring game and a great way to open up the season. There was a couple of big defensive plays but the majority of the game was a offensive game, and it was a great watch. Maggette started the game with some quick baskets and so did Jamaal Tinsley, but the big story for the Pacers was Reggie Miller. "It seemed like everything was falling" said Miller, who scored 26 in the Pacers loss.

Elton Brand had 16 at halftime and late in the fourth he came out scoring numerous times over Jermaine O'Neal who only scored 11 points but grabbed 14 boards. "He got a couple of 3 point plays, which really sealed it" said Shaun Livingston, who only scored 2 points but helped speed up the game in the 4th.

Chris Kaman missed a triple double by only 2 blocks

"It was his first game, you can't expect him to play like Jason Kidd" said Corey Maggette, who dropped a quiet 17 points. The Clippers played really good tonight and they did a nice job of keeping Jermaine O'Neal in foul trouble, Elton Brand scored 30 points and had 10 boards. Chris Kaman also missed a triple double by only two blocks, his play along with the play of Marko Jaric helped the Clips pick up the victory.

TOP PERFORMERS
Elton Brand - 30 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks (POTG)
Corey Maggette - 17 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block
Chris Kaman - 12 points, 13 rebounds, 8 blocks
Marko Jaric - 10 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 steals

Reggie Miller - 26 points, 2 assists, 3 steals
Jermaine O'Neal - 11 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks
Jamaal Tinsley - 16 points, 7 assists, 4 steals

Point Guard Duo too much for Clips
The Hornets picked up their first win of the season

November 2nd, 2004

ImageNew Orleans Hornets (1-2) 105
ImageLos Angeles Clippers (1-1) 93

Baron Davis suffered a injury during warmups but still played in the game, he split time with backup PG Dan Dickau. Two minutes into the game, Clippers PG Marko Jaric suffered a back injury and the Clippers game fell apart from there. Even though Jaric would return later, the Hornets refused to let go of the lead.

The Hornets lead by 22 at one point in the second quarter but the Clippers hot 3 point shooting brought them back and at one point they were down but seven. The play of Dan Dickau (21 points, 5 boards) and Baron Davis (21 points) was too much for Kerry Kittles (21 points) and Marko Jaric's (15 points) hot shooting.

Image
Magloire's defense was the key factor in the game

Elton Brand only scored 10 points but grabbed 8 boards and got 8 assists in the process, Corey Maggette also dropped in 16 points and grabbed 5 boards. Off the bench, Chris Wilcox scored 17 but it couldn't match up with Jamal Magloire's 11 points, 11 boards and 7 blocks.

The Clippers play the Utah Jazz next and look to bounce back from their loss in New Orleans.

TOP PERFORMERS
Elton Brand - 10 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists
Kerry Kittles - 20 points, 3 rebounds
Chris Wilcox - 17 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks

Jamaal Magloire - 11 points, 11 rebounds, 7 blocks (POTG)
P.J Brown - 16 points, 12 rebounds
Baron Davis - 21 points
Dan Dickau - 21 points

Clippers road trip continues in Utah
The Los Angeles Clippers look to bounce back
November 4th, 2004

ImageLos Angeles Clippers (1-1)
ImageUtah Jazz (1-1)

GAME PREVIEW

After a disapointing game in New Orleans, the Clippers visit Utah to go up against the Jazz. "That wasn't the team I saw during the offseason", said Keith Brown on the team's play. The team struggled with turnovers and also went cold from the field for long stretches, their defense wasn't exactly great either. For the Clippers to win this game, they'll have to get the ball on the inside and not settle for three point shots.

"Getting to the foul line is how we got our win over Indiana" said Elton Brand, who only scored 10 points in the loss to the New Orleans Hornets. The Utah Jazz are a team struggling to find themselves after being in the lottery this year and trading Carlos Arroyo.

They signed Carlos Boozer in the offseason hoping that he can bring that Karl Malone toughness to the table. This game looks like it will be a pretty even matchup, but the Jazz could run off with the victory if the Clippers don't play better defense and take good shots.

STARTING LINEUPS

Los Angeles Clippers
C- Chris Kaman
PF - Elton Brand
SF - Corey Maggette
SG - Kerry Kittles
PG - Marko Jaric

Utah Jazz
C- Memet Okur
PF - Carlos Boozer
SF - Andrei Kirilenko
SG - Gordon Giricek
PG - Raul Lopez

KEY MATCHUPS

Image vs. Image

These two fowards are big factors to their respective teams, and you can be sure they'll both go at each other. Carlos Boozer was signed by the Jazz in the offseason and looks to prove to Utah fans he's worth the money, Elton Brand is looking to help back up the gurantee of GM Keith Brown.

Image vs. Image

These two small fowards are just as important to their teams as the power fowards, maybe even more important. Andrei Kirilenko has grown into a great overall player so expect him to play good on both sides of the ball, expect Maggette to be more on the offensive end. Kirilenko will have to do a good job on Maggette if he wants his team to get the win on the home court.

Team play gives Clips second win
Playing team ball worked out for the Clippers
November 4th, 2004

ImageLos Angeles Clippers (2-1) 92
ImageUtah Jazz (1-2) 79

The Clippers started the game running the floor and getting fast break baskets, and that's how at one point they were up by 20+ points. Chris Wilcox was on the recieving end of at least 6 alley-oops. "I don't think I've ever seen that many by one player in one game, we just couldn't stop him", said Jerry Sloan. Chris Wilcox ended up with 26 points and 6 boards, him and the struggling Elton Brand split minutes at the PF position.

"Elton was struggling so we kept him out till the 4th where he got hot", said head coach Mike Dunlevy Sr., Elton Brand finished with 16 points and 8 boards. Marko Jaric had an impressive game with 13 points, 13 steals, 4 boards, 6 assists, he's been looking very good as of late. The Clippers were in discussions of aquiring Baron Davis but right now they look satisfied with their PGs play.

Image
Marko Jaric has silenced any trade rumors

Newly aquired foward Carlos Boozer was quiet for the Jazz, scoring only 6 points the whole game. Utah struggled with turnovers and settled for too many jumpshots which ultimately lead to them losing. The Los Angeles Clippers will head up North next to go against the Toronto Raptors.

TOP PERFORMERS
Marko Jaric - 13 points, 13 steals, 6 assists (POTG)
Chris Wilcox - 26 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks
Elton Brand - 16 points, 8 rebounds
Corey Maggette - 12 points, 2 rebounfd, 6 assits
Kerry Kittles - 17 points, 4 rebounds

Andrei Kirilenko - 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks, 4 steals
Memet Okur - 10 points, 3 boards, 2 blocks

Clippers head to Toronto after big win in Utah
Back to back games could cause the Clippers to lose
November 5, 2004

ImageLos Angeles Clippers (2-1)
ImageToronto Raptors (0-1)

GAME PREVIEW

After a blowout victory in Utah, the Los Angeles Clippers are looking for their third win and second win in a row. On the other side are the Toronto Raptors who dealt Vince Carter for Eric Williams, Alonzo Mourning and A. Williams. So far they're 0-1 but the Toronto team believes they have what it takes to make it to the postseason, which they haven't did in years.

Chris Wilcox is putting up sixth man of the year numbers, but the question is can he and Elton Brand score over Mourning and sophmore Chris Bosh? We expect this game to be fast paced and expect point guards Marko Jaric and Rafer Alston to go at each other.

STARTING LINEUPS

Los Angeles Clippers
C- Chris Kaman
PF - Elton Brand
SF - Corey Maggette
SG - Kerry Kittles
PG - Marko Jaric

Toronto Raptors
C- Alonzo Mourning
PF - Donyell Marshall
SF - Eric Williams
SG - Jalen Rose
PG - Rafer Alston

KEY MATCHUPS

Image vs. Image

Both guards can change the tempo of the game at any minute, and you should keep your eye on them for this game. Last season, Rafer Alston had his best season in Miami and he looks to keep it going in Toronto. Marko Jaric was drafted by the Clippers two years ago and is looking very good, he's averaging 12.7 ppg 2.7 rpg 4.3 apg 6.67 spg.
