Rip Vs Kobe at the top of the key, the two battled it out all game Two of the Best Teams In the Leauge Face Off, Rip Gives 431st Half Story: The Lakers entered the game 3rd in the west behind New Orleans & Dallas, there last game a loss to Milwaukee. The Pistons entered 2nd in the West, only trailing the Orlando Magic. The matchup was also being broadcasted on ESPN, so this was a big chance for the Pistons to show the nation what they were made of. Shaquille O’ Neal won the tip-off over Ben Wallace & the game was under5way. The Lakers jumped to a huge 10-2 lead, led by the 4- headed dragon of Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, Gary Payton, & the Big Diesel himself. Larry Brown trusted in his team, calling no timeouts, as the Pistons went on a 13-3 run take a two-point lead. Phil Jackson ended up being the first coach to call for time.
The 1st quarter ended 32-27, Lakers. The 2nd quarter was where the game got real intense. Chauncey Billups fired up & hit 4 three-pointers, while Ben Wallace dunked on The Big Aristotle twice. Also, Rip Hamilton & Kobe Bryant went at it. Neither really had an edge on the other, especially in the 2nd. Kobe ended up scoring 22 in the 1st half, while Rip had 20. The half ended 67-68, Pistons. The Pistons had 7 blocks & shot 56 % from the field in the 1st half.
2nd Half Story: The Pistons started the 3rd with a bang, going on a 10-0 run. The Pistons then put on a clinic, Chauncey Billups chipped in by draining 2 more threes. The Lakers finally got back into the game and went on their own 10-0 run. They ended up coming back all the way, at one point on a 14-5 run, quarter ended 99-101, Pistons.
Kobe Bryant started of the quarter right for L.A. tying the game on a fade away. The Pistons then answered by going on an 11-2 run to take a 9-point lead. The Lakers never saw light again. First the Pistons went on another 3-point Barrage, this time led by Rip Hamilton instead of Chauncey Billups. That ended up putting it away, the Pistons beating the Lakers the Palace 126-136. Rip Hamilton was the Piston of the game with 43 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, & 7 3-pointers.
