Fatigued Lakers FalterKobe Bryant piled on 38 points last night in LA, but faltered down the stretch to hand the Sacramento Kings a 76-83 victory.
It was Bryant's fifth consecutive game with 34 or more points.
The supporting cast was not up to standard. Center Andrew Bynum spent most of the first half on the bench with foul trouble.
The Lakers' second-highest scorer was Ron Artest with eight on 3-8 shooting. Lamar Odom also went 3-8, but for just seven points.
Shannon Brown (2-12, six points), Pau Gasol (3-7, six points), Matt Barnes (1-4, four points), Steve Blake (1-4, three points) and Derek Fisher (0-3, no points) were similarly inefficient.
Andrew Bynum's four points came on 1-2 shooting, but he was never on the floor long enough for the Lakers to take advantage of him inside.
Tyreke Evans led the Kings with 26, while DeMarcus Cousins chipped in with 20 of his own.
The Lakers are hunting for a backup shooting guard to allow them to rest both Kobe Bryant and Shannon Brown down the stretch in blowout games. They each played in excess of 35 minutes in the Lakers' 96-79 victory over the Rockets on Wednesday night.
Shooting guards currently without contracts include Allen Iverson, Kelenna Azabuike, Larry Hughes, Flip Murray and Jerry Stackhouse.
The Lakers have a lengthy break before their next game, at home against Washington.
