Dead Philly Dynasty

Hey everyone. This is my first ever dynasty thread and I'm hoping that it'll be a great one! I'd really appreciate your feedback so I can fix what I'm doing wrong and make this a better story for you guys. I guess I'll start off by posting my settings...

I'm also using Andrew's sliders (I changed a couple things around so that it would be more realistic for me) and 7 minute quarters.

STERN RESIGNS AS COMMISSIONER OF NBA

It was announced today at 1 PM that David Stern would be resigning as the commissioner of the NBA. No reasons for this sudden departure were given, as Stern solemnly made his announcement at a press conference. The only thing that reporters could get out of him was that he was sure that the new commissioner would bring radical changes to the league. Stern's replacement was unknown as of press time, but league sources restated the fact that "he's really going to change how things work around here."

NEW COMMISSIONER GORDON MAKES HUGE CHANGES

Yesterday, Jim Gordon was named the new commissioner of the NBA. He succeeds David Stern, a respectable man who had helped bring the league into the new millenium. However, Gordon made a startling announcement at his press conference. He stated that, as commissioner, his new plan to gain more revenue was to nullify all current contracts and grant free agent status to every single player in the league. There would then be a new draft that would include all the players in the league. "I strongly believe that this is the best way to go from where I'm starting off," Gordon stated. He also said that there would be a random drawing to determine the draft order. Reactions around the league were mixed, with Billy King, the general manager of the Sixers, saying, "I really think that this is a great opportunity for our team right now. We were in a kind of a dilemma with all the contracts of our veterans burdening us, but now we can just have a fresh start." However, representatives from the better teams in the league said that they were not happy with this announcement. Gordon could not be reached for comment after the press conference.

King: OK, guys. We're on the clock. Who do we have to choose from?

Ford: Well, all the top guys except for TD, Shaq, and McGrady are still there.

King: Did someone already draft AI?

Ford: ... He's still there. ... But I'd rather that we didn't get him. ...

King: Ah, yes. I forgot the battles that you two constantly had. Well, what's everyone think we should do?

Alex English: Well, I'd draft a good point guard. We need a leader who can take over in clutch situations. I suggest that we take Kidd, Francis, Davis or Payton.

Ford: Are you kidding me? Please tell me you're kidding. You want to take Payton with guys like Kobe, Garnett, and Pierce out there? I say we take either Kobe or Garnett.

King: Hmm, I agree with you, Chris. So it's down to these two. What should we do...?

NBA Representative: You have 30 seconds, guys.

Ford: Do what you think is best, Billy. We all support your decision.

*a couple seconds later*

Gordon: With the fourth pick in the draft, the Philadelphia 76ers choose Kevin Garnett! *wild cheers from audience*

Bob Bender: Wow, there's still a lot of great players out here. LeBron, Big Ben, Kenyon, Mash, Spree, Malone... It goes on and on!

Chris Jent: We HAVE to draft LeBron! WE HAVE TO!

Ford: Calm down, Chris. We can't just jump to these decisions. We have to think this out.

King: Wait, Peja's still on the board!

Ford: Peja?! For heaven's sake, get him! We can't afford to mess around with an unproven rookie when we've got a 2-time 3 point shooting champ!

Gordon: And with the 33rd pick of the draft, (grumbling from Jent) the 76ers pick Peja Stojakovic!

Ford: Well we can't screw around with Hill. These guys are all pretty equal in my eyes. Billy?

King: Trust me on this, guys. *he walks over to the representative and whispers something in his ear*

NEW-LOOK SIXERS MAKE EARLY MOVES

With a brand new lineup after the draft, the Sixers decided that they weren't satisfied yet. After the draft, they traded Stromile Swift away to Memphis for Chris Bosh and Jabari Smith. They then traded Smith, Mike Sweetney, Mike Bibby, and an undisclosed amount of cash to Boston for Lebron James. Fans rejoiced after hearing the great news, with one female fan even offering to marry Sixers GM Billy King. Said assistant coach Chris Jent, "I'm absolutely overjoyed at having LeBron on our roster. Words can't describe how happy I am. It's so surprising that Boston would give up such a great prospect. I'm just..." He then broke off in tears of joy. When asked later about the Bosh trade, he answered, "...What?" King only told reporters that he was still seeking other ways to make the team better. In other news, the Sixers picked up undrafted free agent Lawrence Funderburke for a 2 year contract.

SIXERS GM BILLY KING IS HAPPY WITH TEAM

Our very own Stephen A. Smith got a change to interview Billy King about his thoughts on the team he has assembled. Following is a short snippet from this conversation.

SMITH: So, what are your overall thoughts of this team you've built?

KING: I'm just happy to be able to be a part of this sudden change in the NBA. We've dramatically improved from last year's squad and I will consider anything less than a deep playoff run a complete failure.

SMITH: How did you manage to pull off that trade for the highly touted rookie LeBron James?

KING: Well, my coaching staff was really keen on getting LeBron, so I decided to go after him. The whole point of drafting Bibby was to use him as trade bait for James. The Bosh trade was also a key factor, bringing in Jabari Smith, who we eventually traded to Boston along with Bibby and Sweetney. I'm thrilled that this deal went through well.

SMITH: What are your thoughts on the lineup that Chris Ford said he is going to use?

KING: We've been discussing this, and I think that we've found a great lineup. We're going to have Bron and Redd in the backcourt and Bosh, KG, and Peja up front. Then we're going to have Wagner and Delk as interchangable guards coming off the bench. Haislip, Dalembert, and McCarty are backing up the frontcourt. We'll use Jiri and Laurence as our third-string backups.

SMITH: Any predictions for this coming season?

KING: We'll see as the season goes on.

SMITH: Well, thanks a lot for your time, Billy. I wish the Sixers luck.

October 28: SIXERS vs. Heat

Well, game one is going to be a hard challenge. The Sixers are going up against arguably the best team in the league. Miami had the first pick of the draft and have a very good lineup with the likes of Shaq, Troy Murphy, Desmond Mason, Corey Maggette, and Eric Snow. The key to this game will be to try and contain Shaq. Bosh is going to need a lot of help with this huge task so players must be prepared to double-team a lot.

FINAL SCORE: 82-94 LOSS

POG: Eric Snow

RECAP: This was a tough loss to start the season with. Shaq absolutely dominated the game with 29 points on 14-17 shooting. Snow was magnificent, dishing out 12 assists to go with his 21 points. LeBron James struggled mightily against the veteran Snow, finishing with 7 points on 2 for 6 shooting. He also made many rookie mistakes, with 5 turnovers. However, there were times when his uncanny passing ability was shown in a series of alley-oop dunks with Dalembert and Haislip. KG and Peja were also very quiet, contributing only a minimal number of points. The only true bright spot for the home team was the play of Dajuan Wagner, who shot very well to get his 8 points. He showed poise and great promise as a sixth man.

October 31: SIXERS at Kings

Sacramento isn't going to be any easier on my squad. Their starting lineup consists of Tim Thomas, Lamar Odom, Paul Pierce, Derek Anderson, and Dale Davis.

FINAL SCORE: 106-101 WIN

POG: Kevin Garnett

RECAP: What a great way to come back from that season opener! The two stars of the Sixers, Garnett and Stojakovic, both had awesome games. Peja only needed 7 shots to get 20 points and Garnett had a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. KG went on the glass much harder than he had the previous game, when he had only gotten 7 boards. Wagner continued to be a force off the bench, providing 12 points. Michael Redd and LeBron James continued to struggle, with Redd having trouble hitting the 3, and James having high turnover rates. However, James and his fellow rookie Bosh are starting to show what they can actually do. James finished with 12 points and 6 assists, seeming to score whenever he felt like it. Bosh had 3 intimidating blocks that were a key factor to the win. For the Kings, Pierce, Thomas, and Odom led the way with 30, 20, and 20 points respectively. However, the rest of their team was unable to contribute that much on offense. The other standout performer on Sacramento was Anderson, who had 21 amazing assists! The Sixers' next game is against Golden State.

November 1: SIXERS at Warriors

It looks like the visiting team is capable of beating this squad. Golden State's starting five are Shane Battier, Larry Hughes, Z. Ilgauskas, Rasheed Wallace, and DerMarr Johnson.

FINAL SCORE: 86-83 WIN

POG: Kevin Garnett

RECAP: This was an ugly, hard-fought win. James and Bosh, the rookie wonders, keep on improving game by game. In this game, Bosh had 5 commanding blocks to keep the other team out of the paint. He is beginning to assert himself defensively and, to a point, offensively. James cut down his turnover numbers by a large margin and had a good offensive game. On one play, he dribbled through a full-court press, drove all the way to the rim, went up as if he were going to put up a layup, and dished a behind-the-back pass to Garnett, who was waiting for the monstrous dunk. It was one of the many eye-popping plays that the young rookie ran for the Sixers. Not having that much success with his 3 point shot early in the season, Michael Redd is getting a huge amount of his points from fastbreak opportunities. Philly had a huge amount of fastbreak points in this game, at least 20, and Redd was a big reason why. Bench players Welsch, Funderburke, and Haislip also contributed to the cause with a bucket each. For the Warriors, Battier was the standout player. He drained three balls at will, scoring at an alarming rate. The Sixers will need to work on their team defense a little.
