You know what would be cool too is maybe starting from the original game, just adding in Barkley & Shaq who were not in the original Jam TE game?

I think I'm going to work with some of the secret player data tonight. If there's 8 or 9 slots available, I'm thinking of adding Bird, Magic, Shaq, Barkley, Jordan, AI, TMac, BRIAN SCALABRINE because he's my favorite, and maybe one or two more.. The ones that I had to include because of the compressed data are:

Olajuwon, Maxwell, Laettner, Person, Robinson, Elliot, Malone, Stockton, Wilkins, Augmon, Johnson, Mourning, Pippen, Grant, Price, Daugherty, Bogues, Bradley, Miller, Roberts, Rooks, Edwards, Brown, Cheaney, Seikaly, Miner, Coleman, Anderson, Ewing, Starks, Anderson

Could also include an additional 7 or 8 players from the original game as well. Still undecided how I want to do the remaining secret players.

Could use the extra spots for teams not in the game like i mentioned before. Anthony Davis would be a monster in this game.

Got the chance to play this for the first time tonight, I have to say, really amazing work :bowdown2: :bowdown2: . I had no idea each team would have 4-5 selectable players! I was able to play with the Lakers, Pacers, Blazers, Bulls, Knicks and Spurs. Here are a few of my thoughts:

As a Laker fan I would love to see Kaman replaced with Swaggy P or Jodie Meeks.

I think Manu could probably use a different head, the current one is kind of a dirty blond/brown hair color. Maybe Mike D's head? I know that would be a large head on a small body but it seems like you did the same thing for Nash and it works. Personally, I would rather have a head that looks accurate and is big than one that doesn't look accurate a la Scott Skiles bleach blonde hair in the original NBA Jam lol.

I think Robin Lopez could also probably have a different head. From the list you posted, Jason Falcus' looked a little more like his Sideshow Bob fro?

I know you mentioned this was tricky but adding just one headband wearing head would add a lot for players like Melo, LeBron, and DeMarcus Cousins. I'm not Rom hacking expert by any means but I'm fairly certain you can do this with a tile editor? Then again, that may mean you have to attach the rom to it and perhaps break forum rules...?

Lastly, updated jersey colors and logos would be killer but as I said, I'm no expert and I have no idea how complicated that would be.

As it stands now this is still extremely awesome. I've been waiting a LONG time for someone to tackle this and thanks to you I can now play NBA JAM TE with Kobe and Gasol. I'm probably going to play some tomorrow and I'll get into more gameplay centered thoughts...

Ginobili has a small body? i tihnk he should have a regular one at 6'6". i tihnk the face of the "acclaim guy" would work for him.

Awesome man, I'm glad you got it set up and I'm glad you're happy with it.. Thanks for taking the time out to make comments like this, it's really appreciated.. Will definitely make for a better finished product.

I agree with all of your points. I was likely going to switch Kaman out for someone, probably Nick Young, just haven't gotten around to doing it. Will also likely add a player to the Bulls and Thunder (Sonics) as well. Other than those 3 changes, I think the whole roster is looking good.

You're right about the heads.. Ginobli got messed up somehow (should have a tall body with black hair) so I'll go back and fix that. Will also look into switching the head on Lopez.

As for editing heads and team colors, I know this is a possibility, and I could definitely do it, but it would take a little bit of time to figure out where all that data is within the rom. I can try digging around for a little bit, but I'm not sure I can include it in this version. Maybe I can figure it out in time for NBA Jam 2k15 / 20th anniversary rom? :D

I'm currently in the process of making some changes to the ratings thanks to Qballer. I'm hoping to get a 2nd version of the beta out by tonight, so be on the lookout for that. I'll have Manu and Lopez updated as well.

Never mind, that took a lot less time than I originally expected... NBA Jam Beta V2 comin at ya! Changes:

Qballer wrote:Iguodala: Power 5, Block 7
Lee: Power 7
Crawford: 3PT 8
Kobe: Power 5 or 6
Blake: 3PT 6, Dunk 1, Pass 7 or 8, Power 4, Block 1 or 2
Frye: 3 PT 8
Bledsoe: Dunk 7, Power 6
G Green: 3 PT 6, Dunk 9
Lillard: Clutch 9, 3PT 8
Batum: Clutch 8
Matthews: 3PT 7 or 8
Durant: Dunk 7 or 8, Block 5 or 6
Marion: Steal 8, Block 7
Lawson: Pass 8
Harden: Dunk 5, Power 4, Steal 4
Kanter: Power 9, Block 6 or 7
Korver: 3PT 9
J Butler: Speed 7, 3PT 5, Dunk 6, Pass 5, Power 5, Steal 7, Block 4
Jennings, 3PT 7, Clutch 7
Josh Smith: 3PT 3, Block 8, Pass 4
C Butler: Power 5, Dunk 5
Rondo: 3PT 3
D Williams: Clutch 8
J Johnson: Clutch 9
Chandler: Power 8, Block 9
Stoudemire: Dunk 6 or 7
Oladipo: Dunk 6
Young: 3PT 4, Steal 8

*Manu Ginobli body / head fix
*Robin Lopez head fix

That's about it.. A lot of minor tweaks but some players were completely messed up and needed to be reworked. I think the roster and player data is finally approaching a finished state, but I'm still open to changes, as always. Oh.. And I managed to mess up Rudy Gay's portrait even more in trying to fix it lol :( Hoping to get that resolved soon. Anyway, apply to the original rom, the same way as the original patch. Password is the same as before. Enjoy!

found a little trick for the heat. use all the first quarter as Lebron/wade and score as much with Lebron as you can. then the rest of the game go Allen/Lebron and Lebron will be teamed up on every chance the CPU gets, so you can just pop 3's the whole game. also having the CPU as Lebron is great because he just bruises everyone.

Figured I would share this here:

It snowed a crazy amount in Portland this past weekend and I was stuck at my apartment for a couple days. Fortunately I have some buddies who live within walking distance. I packed up my modded wii and the latest version of the beta and both of their jaws dropped :D . Had a great time drinking adult beverages and playing it ALL weekend.

Great work once again, looking forward to future releases.

Hey - has there ever been a college basketball equivalent to NBA Jam? I'm not too full on my basketball video game history knowledge

Midway released College Slam back in 1996. It didn't do as well.

We've got articles on it and a whole lot of other basketball games in our Wiki:

Yeah college slam was basically an NBA Jam clone with College teams instead of NBA teams. and funny college-themed lines from the announcer t replace the regular ones

THAT'S WHAT COLLEGE SLAM IS?!?!?!??!?! Oh my. I feel like I've seen that game so many times on clearance growing up and thought it was just some crappy 3rd party basketball game.. Whoever was in charge for marketing it really screwed the pooch.. No idea how I've gone all my life without playing that lol. Unfortunately, I just went through the rom and it looks like you can't edit the names or anything. Pretty sure they just use the same 5 positions as names for every team. Would be incredible to update that to 2014 next, but I think it would probably be easier to do an overhaul on NBA Jam

I just bought a CIB copy for the Genesis for $2 and a cart only copy for the SNES for $1. Just fired it up, and.... EDITABLE ROSTERS AND STATS FROM WITHIN THE GAME!!!       They don't let you change the player heads, skin colors, or sizes, but I imagine that's nothing a quick hex edit couldn't handle. Might have just found my new project when I'm done with NBA Jam.

:edit: whoops, completely missed your post Q lol. I wish they would let you edit the sprites too. Hopefully I can find the offsets for the players. I'm really not sure why it took me almost 20 years to find out about this game and it's greatness lol, I think the gameplay is on par with Jam, if not better. The announcer gets a little repetitive and annoying though.
