After months of not playing this game, I have recently got back into it, and I've been doing some work on the rosters. It would be nice to have this game updated for the complete '13-14 season, before all the trades and free agent moves happen next month. Here are the things I'd like to do before posting the updated files:

1) Fix the player names that are misspelled. So far, the only two I've seen misspelled are Afflalo ("Affalo") and Ginobili ("Ginobli").

2) Move players who were traded. There weren't a lot of huge trades this season, so I think I'm only going to move Luol Deng to the Cavs and Rudy Gay to the Kings. I'll need new jersey images for these trades but I'll have to ask for those later, when I know exactly who they will be traded for.

3) Correct the appearances of the big-time players. e.g. James Harden is John Stockton, Brandon Jennings is a corny looking white dude. I have done this before (swapping Kyrie Irving and Kyle Korver's appearances) and documented the procedure, but it is a pain in the ass, so I might only do it for a few players.

4) Update the starting lineups. Aside from the players that I need to trade, this is complete. Here are the changes:

ATLANTA: Swapped out Williams for Teague
BOSTON: Swapped out Bass for Sullinger
BROOKLYN: Swapped out Garnett for Johnson
DALLAS: Swapped out Marion for Carter
DENVER: Swapped out Gallinari for Lawson
DETROIT: Swapped out Monroe for Jennings
GOLDEN STATE: Swapped out Iguodala for Thompson
GOLDEN STATE: Swapped out Bogut for Lee
LA LAKERS: Swapped out Nash for Young
MILWAUKEE: Swapped out Delfino for Ilyasova
MINNESOTA: Swapped out Budinger for Pekovic
NEW YORK: Swapped out Stoudemire for Smith
ORLANDO: Swapped out Maxiell for Afflalo
ORLANDO: Swapped out Davis for Nelson
PHILADELPHIA: Swapped out Richardson for Carter-Williams
PORTLAND: Swapped out Lopez for Lillard
SAN ANTONIO: Swapped out Ginobili for Leonard
TORONTO: Swapped out Ross for Lowry
TORONTO: Swapped out Gay for Valanciunas
UTAH: Swapped out Evans for Burke
WASHINGTON: Swapped out Porter for Nene

Questions:
1) What is the best way to change a player's name? I tried editing the player database file directly, but it screwed up every name after the player I changed. I'm guessing this is because the pointer needs to be updated, but I'm not sure how to do this.
2) What is the source of the player ratings, and how can they be updated? If it can be automated, I wouldn't mind doing it. Otherwise, I may just manually boost the ratings of players who excelled this season.

It would also be cool to make Oladipo and Dragic, but I don't think I'll get to that.

Best way to change the name is to simply create a new name at the end of the file and reference that instead of the original name. iirc I did video tutorials on all that funness.

I think Mazz got the ratings from 2K, not sure though.

Yes, I hadn't seen that video. Found it, and got it to work - thanks

JaoSming wrote:I think Mazz got the ratings from 2K, not sure though.

I don't have 2K (haven't owned one since 2k9). Could someone give me the relevant ratings for Jimmy Butler? If not, no big deal. I'm familiar with him and can make it up, based on some similar players.

The more important thing I need are jersey textures. I swapped Deng with Bynum, and I'm gonna replace Bynum with Butler on the Bulls. Rudy Gay has been swapped with Vasquez. Aside from asking Mazzocchi, whats the best way to create the jerseys for these four guys (again, without 2K14)?

Thanks for the help

you can use the free version of RED MC (2k14 releases sticky) and any roster to grab ratings if you need em, that is the easiest way IMO

for textures, yea, its photoshop/GIMP, I dont have a good simple way to say that you just gotta make the texture look right

Damn, is that what Mazz did for every player?

Does anyone have blank jersey templates? It's gonna be tough to remove a name and number and then have to add to it.

Yup.

I'd have no problem whipping up some new jersey textures for the guys you switched around, it'd be so easy for me to do since I have templates for every team already and whatnot.
If you could, maybe just give me a list, and I'll throw together a home and away jersey for each player in a day or two

Something like this would be nice
Code: Select all
Team - Players last name - Number

Whew, that is awesome. Thanks so much, Mazz. This will be a good final update for the 13-14 season.

I'm not sure that I'll get all of these guys in, but here's the list of 8:

Code: Select all
Bulls - Butler - 21
Cavaliers - Deng - 9
Cavaliers - Hawes - 32
Kings - Gay - 8
Magic - Oladipo - 5
Magic - Vucevic - 9
Raptors - Vasquez - 21
Suns - Dragic - 1

Also, do you have your calculations for converting ratings from NBA2K to Street? I've seen your post mapping out which ratings would be used (quoted below), but I don't think you posted the calculation for converting. It seems that this is necessary because 2K's ratings range from 25-110, and Streets' ratings are presumably 0-99.

Blocks: Conversion of Block rating from 2K13
Steals: Average of Steal, On-Ball Defense & Defensive Awareness rating from 2K13

Yeah that's it, I made a spreadsheet in OpenOffice that converted everything. There really is no conversion necessary aside from using that method. As far as I know 2K's ratings never go over 100 unless equipment bumps the ratings? Even then, using the players base ratings are fine, as they don't account for the equipment.

Aside from that, here's those jerseys as you requested! On another note, I don't think any teams jerseys have changed design wise between when this was released, and this year, and I don't even think teams are wearing any patches or anything, but if I'm forgetting any changes I will gladly release updated jerseys.

Thanks so much for the jerseys

How did you get the Street ratings from OpenOffice to the xdbplyr.adf file? Did you automate it, or manually update everyone's ratings? The reason I ask is because I'd like to make the 2014 ratings more like the ratings in the original game. For example, no one in the original game (aside from legends) have the gold crown rating for any category. I'd like to make this version as close to the original as possible. If this can't easily be automated, I'll finish the roster work that i'm doing now, and consider revamping the ratings later.

I almost hate to bring this up so long after you guys put in a ton of work to get this game done, but I'm looking at the ratings from the original rosters, and there might be a problem.

JaoSming wrote:Hex On Steroids Row Identifiers for....

2 - First Name Position
3 - Team Assigned to (pants/shorts/tshirt)
4 - Position
5 - Number
8&10 - Height (inches)
9&11 - Weight (pounds)
14 - PlayerID (Portraits)
16 - Rating: 2 Point Shots
17 - Rating: 3 Point Shots
18 - Rating: Dunks
19 - Ratings?
20 - Rating: Power
21 - Rating: Blocks
22 - Rating: Steals
23 - Rating: Handles
24 - Ratings?
25 - Rating: Rebounds
26 - Ratings?
29 - CyberFace Name Position

Row 25 might not be rebounds. Take a look at the top players for that row:
Code: Select all
95- Kobe Bryant
95- Vince Carter
90- Allen Iverson
90- Michael Jordan
90- Tracy McGrady
90- Stephon Marbury
90- Steve Francis
90- Kevin Garnett
90- Tim Duncan
90- Shaquille O'Neal

The only good rebounders here are KG, Duncan, and Shaq.

...and here are the worst players for that row:
Code: Select all
45- Tony Delk
45- Ben Wallace
45- Corliss Williamson
45- Jerome Williams
40- Shandon Anderson
40- Anthony Carter
30- Tony Battie

The player that should stick out is Ben Wallace. He was second in the league in rebounds that year, so whatever row represents rebounds, he should be at the top of it.

Could rebounds be row 19? Here are the top guys for 19:
Code: Select all
90- Chris Webber
90- Shawn Marion
90- Alonzo Mourning
90- Dikembe Mutombo
85- Tim Duncan
85- Kevin Garnett
85- Shareef Abdur-Rahim
85- Ben Wallace
81- Shaquille O'Neal
81- Elton Brand

The only guy that isn't a top rebounder in this list is Shawn Marion. I don't really know how to explain that, but he's a strange player, so maybe there just isn't an explanation.

What do you guys think?

I just noticed that Arron Afflalo and Jason Maxiell's jerseys are messed up. I'm gonna replace Maxiell with Vucevic, so I don't need his changed. Would you mind fixing Afflalo's ("Affalo")? If not, it's really no big deal.

I think your hunch about rebounding is correct. Marion does belong there, I mean he had a stretch of 8 years in his career where he had like 10 RPG every year

Yep, I'm sure of it now that I've taken a look at the ratings in the game. Every player has a rebounding rating of 3 bars.

Re: NBASv2HDR - Roster Thread

Now the unknown rows are 24-26. Here's what I think about them:

Row 24 - Highest values
Code: Select all
Rafer Alston
Jay Williams
Gary Payton
Allen Iverson
Dajuan Wagner
Steve Francis
Damon Stoudamire
Stephon Marbury
Kobe Bryant
Darrell Armstrong
Chauncey Billups

Row 24 - Lowest values
Code: Select all
Corliss Williamson
Donnell Harvey
Vlade Divac
Elden Campbell
Malik Rose
Vin Baker
Troy Murphy
Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Jamaal Magloire
Dikembe Mutombo
Shaquille O'Neal

With Rafer Alston at the top and Shaq at the bottom, I think it's safe to say this is the player's ability and effectiveness of performing trick moves.

Row 25 - Highest values
Code: Select all
Kobe Bryant
Vince Carter
Allen Iverson
Steve Francis
Stephon Marbury
Tracy McGrady
Kevin Garnett
Tim Duncan
Michael Jordan
Shaquille O'Neal

Row 25 - Lowest values
Code: Select all
Tony Delk
Jerome Williams
Ben Wallace
Corliss Williamson
Anthony Carter
Shandon Anderson
Tony Battie

This is a tough one, but I think with Jordan near the top and Ben Wallace being the only notable player near the bottom, this might be a player's isolation scoring ability. At first I thought it might be related to shooting, but it wouldn't make sense to have Tony Delk near the bottom. He was a spot-up shooter, so it makes sense he'd have a poor iso rating.

Row 26 - Highest values
Code: Select all
Kobe Bryant
Vince Carter
Allen Iverson
Steve Francis
Tracy McGrady
Tim Duncan
Shaquille O'Neal
Chris Webber
Jason Kidd

Row 26 - Lowest values
Code: Select all
Quentin Richardson
Dion Glover
Vladimir Radmanovic
Kwame Brown
Corliss Williamson
DeShawn Stevenson
Tony Battie

I'm stumped. Could it be a player's overall rating?

Jao, as a Celtics fan I hope you're amused at how frequently Tony Battie's name shows up at the bottom of these ratings lists. It's funny how overrated and overpaid he was by the C's
