I forgot how bad this game was/is. I know it's not a sim, I know it's about the crazy dunks, but it gets boring. After playing a few times all the dunks and crazy moves become commonplace. It's run back and forth dunking and blocking.

Hence the reason for the Remix Tour, to change things up a bit.

If you are playing to watch crazy dunks you are missing the point of NBA Jam. It's about an "arcade experience", it's almost better to think about it as a fighting game rather than a basketball game. All about balanced gameplay between the new dribble moves and shoving, dunking vs blocking, and faking out defenders with the shot fake. Nevermind strategy of stuffing the D twice in a row to get someone on fire.

There is a HUGE nostalgia factor in play here too.

Seems like a lot more blocked shots than I recall from the original, which is never a good thing.

Yeah I've noticed that in some of the videos they've shown but I don't think it'll ruin the game. I've been playing a bit of Tournament Edition recently for a bit of nostalgia and while you don't necessarily get blocked quite as much, the AI is pretty adept at shoving you to the floor when you're just about to dunk which essentially results in the same thing. What I'd forgotten about was the rubberband AI, it rivals the comeback logic of the NBA Live series at times.
