PERFECT NBA LIVE FOR 09 ! Check this out !

Postby Beatboxer on Sat Feb 02, 2008 5:13 am

Hi again everybody. I've just downloded the demo version of the NBA Live 2001 and really needed to make a video to show you.

Everybody, just look at this:

Can you see how beautiful the transition screens, cut-scenes, smoothness of the dunks are?
Can you see player's expressions?
Can you believe EA achieved them with the technology of "6 years ago"?

I hardly believe NBA Live 09 should take these positive parts of the NBA Live 2001 into the next title!

plenty of cutscenes and better transitions in the NG version of the game. Dunks, well, yea they need improving but i dont think 2001's were special at all.

Expressions, again, see NG game.

And yea i can believe it, 2000 had real time shadows, after 2005 they havent made it back into the PC game. There are many other things from the other games that should be incorporated as well. I made a topic of features taken out each year of live in this forum, check it out.
Opinions are my own.

I'm sure you say the true. But i've meant the pc version of the Nba live series. I don't have a NG console, and i believe many of the others here, too.
For Pc, also I'd like to mention that the programmers of the NBA Live 2001 have better abilities than the programmers of the newer versions.

I hope we'll see a different game engine for the NBA Live 09 PC. We want a different game next year.

Hopefully next year we will be seeing a port of the NG version. That is why i said all those things about the 360 version.
Opinions are my own.

"Next Generation". It's a commonly used term for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360..

I love how the commentator and the crowd got all excited after just a few passes. The first thing I remember about Live 2001 was the beautiful menu interface. The second was the game winning 3 I hit with my CAP in my the first game I played. That game was barely good enough at it's time for the year and a half we had to wait for 2003. It was the next generation game at it's time.

Agreed, 2001's UI was one of my favourites as well.

NBA Live 2001 had its strong points but it was far from a perfect game. I'd say that a mix of the finest points of NBA Live 2004-06 (at least in terms of gameplay) would be more along the lines of what I'd like to see in future games, along with the Dynasty Mode from the 360/PS3 version of NBA Live 08 (with some further enhancements).

Old school Live. :)
Too bad they took out the player expressions.
Rasheed Wallace and Ron Artest would be the craziest..

I'd like to quote from this thread which i posted some videos recently. Because i'd like to put together some old-school NBA Lives together.

**This game is just plain fun with wonderful cut-scenes, ankle-breakers, explosive dunks and layups. Thank you very much EA who produced this fun game in the past.
Don't forget to watch players' expressions and cut-scenes carefully. Some of them are toooooooo funny. Laughing And enjoy colourful commentary by Don Poier & Bob Elliot.

NBA LIVE 2004 - SIMULATION:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZilLDelYRY

**This game is more simulation-like. A year after, EA did a great job blending NBA Live 2003's fun and 2004's more realistic simulation style basketball. Except some blocky collision animations, this game is great.
I decreased the volume of commentary and crowd, and increased the volume of on-court chat. Because i'd like to be a player on the court. I'd like to feel the game. So listen carefully Wink

Allright everybody.
Let's create the perfect NBA Live for 09.

What features from the past NBA Lives you would like to include? Tell us.

OK. Here I go.
- Take the create-a-team mode from NBA Live 2000.
- Take the smooth dunks and layups, some cut-scenes and sounds and the user interface(UI-menu interface) from the NBA Live 2001
- Take all cut-scenes, some powerful dunks, a little ankle-breaking moves, and some details(such as PG put his hands up while setting play) from NBA Live 2003.
- Take the simulation-like style gameplay and on-court chat from NBA Live 2004.
- Take the all-star weekend, nice jerseys, and dynamic shadows from NBA Live 2005.
- Take the bugless fast-break from NBA Live 06.
- Take the toned-down freestyle superstar moves from NBA Live 07.
- Take the sig-shots, go-to-moves and effective hot-spots from NBA Live 08.

Graphics are not important at all. NBA Live 2005's graphics are enough.

- In addition, put D-league and accurate stats into the new title.

And here it is. The perfect NBA Live for the PC users. It should be easy to combine all past and future details together and make a game even if the game-engines are different each other.

Don't you agree with me?

There's no reason to lock the thread but posting ideas on what would make the perfect NBA Live 09 is pretty similar to a Wishlist.

Hey, I downloaded the demo some weeks ago, too. I was also impressed by the game. Animations, cutscenes, graphics and colors are just brilliant.

you guys have to consider that mostly of the pcs is better then those people had in 2001.

So the game seems light and runs neat.

For those who are using the same computer since 2001, you may find 08 heavy and slow.

Live 03 is still great even with low resolutions. (640*480 & 800*600).
2001 is not good at graphics, but i loved those cut-scenes. They are dynamic and even they have sound. i.e. Shaq said me(Kobe) at the freethrow line "Make it baby". I clearly heard that. Just amazing

Err, what was your title about?

2001 was one of the great Lives, minus the player tattoos and accessories.

It still had its negatives though, the inability to interrupt animations, lack of a midrange game and incorrect rebounding ratio to name a few.

Well,
It's about putting previous NBA Lives together, taking their good aspects and adding them into the future titles while excluding bad aspects.

I think you are talking about 2001.
You are right. But it's still more bugless than 08.
Hopefully, i believe, 09 will have more animations and less bugs. Because, i mentioned in another post, last year developer team spent so much time on the graphics engine and less time on animations and gameplay. But this year for 09, i hope they will spend more time on animations and gameplay instead of graphics engine.

Yes, I was talking about NBA Live 2001 there. It certainly didn't have as many database issues as NBA Live 08 though.

Most refreshing part of this video? NO BOUNCING!!!!! No stinking offensive player bouncing off defensive player each and every time he tries to drive by him. EA tried to add some "feel and weight" to the players and screwed it up completely. I had a great time with Live 2001.

2001 is not good at graphics

I second that. It still boggles me how I could play Quake 3 beautifully with normal graphic settings while I have trouble with Live 2001 just to play at its lowest resolution.
Andrew wrote:the inability to interrupt animations

You can interrupt it with the shoot button. Or interrupt it with a shot fake if you don't want to shoot.

You know EA is doing something wrong with the Live franchise when people see the exceptional beauty of Live 2001.

EDIT: Saw the video posted. The way that guy plays, I'm pretty sure he sucks.

Not always; one of the big problems in 2001 and 2002 was that you'd often spin baseline or to the high post after backing down and hit the shoot button, only to have the player stand there.

I don't have any major gripes with the rim/dunk sound effects these days, at least compared to NBA Live 2003 and NBA Live 2004.
