Favourite NBA Live

Postby Andrew on Thu Apr 26, 2007 6:47 pm

With favourite and least favourite cover players out of the way, it's time to move on to the games themselves. Which NBA Live game is your favourite out of the entire series? Will NBA Live 2000 still be considered the pinnacle of the series or will a more recent game take the crown? Cast your vote now!

The poll will close in 30 days.

My vote went with 2004 but 2001 was also alot of fun too, it was the first one that i bought for the ps2. I can still remember playing 95 on the super nintendo lol

If theres a poll for "worst out the box" then 2003 gets my vote however i very good game after a hell of alot of tweaking.

Honestly, some of the banter between Marv & Steve although can get repetitive, is still slightly more interesting than lines like "What attitude! They give up a 3 and get one right back" and gay shit like that in NBA 2k7.

most of you guys don't know what a real NBA Live PC game was like (pre-2002) and it's a shame. The games most deserving are Lives 98-2000, but my vote was for 98.

Wasnt it 98 (or 99) that had thoses annoying lean in jumpshots?

I think they should bring back the post moves that they had in 2001, iam not a big fan of the superstar plays that are in 06 and 07 think they make it abit to arcade at times.

Although the level of the games in 05 and 06 was pretty good, I don't think the new team can still match the product of the old team. So Live 2000 gets my vote on this...

I know 2000 would now feel old and out dated, but about as much that has gone right since then, about as much good has gone downhill too... So as a complete package 2000 is probably the best in history of NBA Lives... No pun at Tim who used to run these boards back in the day...

I remember just 100% joy of playing the 2000 version. It was fun although not a big challenge... You could still play Franchise mode with friends and it had a lot of good in it. 2001 was essentially an equal game, but it had a Franchise bug that killed the simulation, but most of you know of this, so I won't go into any details.

2003 was a total mess... The gameplay was way too fast and threes were more than abundant. I like 05, 06 and sort of 07 too, but they each have their flaws and that takes the edge off of them...

Live 2000 4 EVA!!!

I am actually going for 07. After excessive patching it truly is my favorite live. I have the most fun playing a full game in it and that is what matters to me the most. The Fun Factor.

Don't get me wrong, 2004 was amazing, 2003 is a hell of a lot of fun, and 2005 is prob the best balanced game, but each have issues that can't be resolved. Such as players skating and the damn "EA Glitch". Although I played the shit out of 2000 and 2001 back in the day, it has seemed to lost it's luster with me. The shots feel too scripted where if it goes in it will almost always be a swish. So ya, that's my reasoning behind it.
Opinions are my own.

I haven't played 2000, so I can't relate to some of you guys. I have played Lives '99, 2001, 2003, 2004, (a bit of) 2005, 06 and 07. Among those, I pick 2004. The dynasty is just amazing with the additional unlockables for your team. (Y)

Damn, I should look for my copy of 2004.

I walked away from Nba Live in Nov after the poor effort of a game they put out and have been playing 2k7 on the ps2 ever since but theses past few weeks ive seen all the patching people have put into this years game (and EA's sub bug fix) ive decided to give live 07 another try and have just bought myself a copy from ebay.

2000 is best!
It is a real basketball game , not just a PC game.
I always use many tools to edit this game,so it is real and new!
Nba-live 2000 is the best basketball game!!!

I have to go with 2001 on this one. Back when it was released, I fell in love with it. It still rocks in many things. The blocking system is superb, it's mostly realistic and it's flaws are pretty minor and lie mostly in statistics, when current Lives have problems everywhere.

my biggest problem with 2001 is the player models. it just looked really weird to me. and also the jersey number were whack too. but i remember the gameplay was pretty damn good.

Actually imo the player models still from 2001 can compete with the ones in 07 pretty easily. The visuals back then looked damn good. The ball physics and animation interactions were pretty flexible, gave room for quic decisions and had no sudden out of bounds-steppin issues.
Yep 2001 is my favourite with 2000 and 2004 trailing not far behind. I really hope I can add 08 to the list but graphics also go a long way and I'm sure the gfx engine goes unchanged again. But gameplay is the most important thing so... well at least I know what I'll vote for my least favourite Live.

It was a toss up for me between 2000 and 07, and I went with 2000. Reason is, it was the first time I ever tried patching, and I downloaded a load of patches for that game. I tried playing it again last year and got my ass handed to me.

My Top 5

2000 - So many patches, Jordan, face in the game, and the interface and soundtrack were the best of any version in the series, imo.
07 - Look what we've done! I've had some of the greatest games with this version.
2003 - Most fast paced fun I ever had once the jumping and PG-primacy ratings were lowered
2001 - hey, it was worth playing for 1.5 years. The hook shot was cheap.
2004 - It toned down some of the freestyle, added sliders, 5 on 5 mo-cap really helped the gameplay.

dbf editing, how else?

Edit - Wait, do you mean how do I edit the file globally? I use DBF Viewer, it has "Multiple Record Updating" where you can use expressions to make a global change, like subtracting or multiplying, filtering the records so only players who are point guards get changed, etc.). I think CDBFlite can use expressions to edit dbf files globally, too. I saw a page on the web about it but I didn't understand it and I can't find it now.
