I'll spin this off into its own topic. (Y)

Certainly very promising, and it sounds as though they've taken a lot of the feedback on board. I'm still a little sceptical as I was a bit disappointed by NBA Playgrounds - it's solid, but not great - but adding an online league, offline season, and further polish to the gameplay does sound very promising in theory. Dedicated servers and better matchmaking were also a must, so (hopefully) good news there as well.

Considering that NBA Jam was quickly followed by NBA Jam Tournament Edition back in the day, and EA Sports went back to back with NBA Jam 2010 and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, I don't think getting a sequel a year later is a bad thing. If they can't build on the original anymore and they can put out a better sequel in short order, why not? Hopefully, it'll be a marked improvement on the original.

I sort of swapped opinions by the end of Playgrounds lifespan. I went into playgrounds kind of drinking the koolaid with "Yeah its like NBA Street and NBA Jam all in one!!!!!" but the more I played of it, the more it felt not nearly as smooth as street, and not nearly as mechanically sound as Jam.

Maybe now that I know what I'm getting myself into my opinion will change again.

It was respectable for a first effort, but there was definitely more than ample room for improvement. I think I let my expectations get a little too high.

Looking at those screenshots, I like that there's an overlay rather than having to rely on the scoreboard on the court. Visually it looks more appealing, but I hope they've fixed the rebounding, shooting mechanics, and cheap AI.

I bought the original out of desperation for lack of games I was playing at the time especially with me my last game being live 15 and it was fun at first but once you got through the short tournaments there really wasn't much to the game. It took way too long to unlock players and duplicates should not be possible. The shot meter was too much for an arcade style game especially on dunks and layups. The chances that I buy playgrounds 2 is very low, especially with the success of live 18 and with 19 on the horizon

Would love to see what EA could do if they brought back Street

I'd love to see EA bring back Street and Jam, but unfortunately it doesn't seem that's happening in the foreseeable future.

I definitely agree that having timing/the shot meter on dunks and layups is overkill, and resulted in too many of them missing, especially for an arcade game. Even for jumpshots, I'd simply the mechanic and fix the percentages so that they're more in line with previous titles in the genre.

Interesting that they originally said a Summer release. As we mentioned in a couple of podcasts ago, May isn't Summer anywhere on this planet.

Well, maybe it will be a Summer release after all. It's been delayed.

We’ve got some news to share, but we want to start by saying ‘good things come to those who wait.’ There are exciting things brewing with the NBA Playgrounds franchise that we think will take arcade basketball to new levels.

We can’t tell you everything now, but we can tell you that this means our launch date of May 22nd will be moved out. Please be patient with us, we promise that NBA Playgrounds 2 will be better than ever. We’ll have more details to share soon.

Except Southern California

I definitely won't be buying but I'll be interested to see how well they do

Well, officially. Summer has quite a bit of overlap here in Australia, too.

Cheap plug for this week's Monday Tip-Off, in which I discuss the lack of information since the postponement: https://www.nba-live.com/mto-self-destr ... grounds-2/

While the title may seem a little melodramatic, I feel like the game is letting an opportunity slip through its fingers. NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 will be out soon; the former has positive buzz, while the latter is likely to sell well despite the grumbling and backlash against NBA 2K18. The silence is doing nothing for NBA Playgrounds 2's hype, and it's difficult to imagine an announcement that will feasibly make the delay seem worthwhile. Going completely silent is doing the brand no favours right now.

A teaser, a hint, more previews and information about the stuff they can talk about right now - in short, anything to keep the game in our minds and get us excited about it - would be for the best. Instead. we're left to wonder whether the game will end up being cancelled, or at the very least, whether it's going to be anywhere near as good as we want it to be. I can't shake the feeling that the announcement won't live up to the hype, though the game itself may be at least solid and an improvement on the original.

Well, now we know what the delay was all about: 'NBA 2K Playgrounds 2' Announced With A Fall Release For Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch And PC

The upside: It'll probably mean Legends like MJ and Kobe will be in the game.
The downside: The distinct possibility of microtransactions and other undesirable aspects of 2K releases.

Very smart play by $aber. Great job in cashing in on 2ks money.

Now with 2k involved, you'll have to pay for everything you do in the game lol

Now's the time for EA to respond with a new NBA Jam. On Fire Edition was fantastic.

I'm more of a Jam fan than a Street fan, and we're getting The Streets in NBA Live 19, but I'm all for both franchises returning. Perhaps they could alternate releases, especially with the facilities for roster updates and other big patches these days. Jam and Street don't need to be annual releases.

Kobe too, I believe. Certainly good news, but if the gameplay isn't markedly better than last year, it'll kind of be for nothing.
