Search for the field "SPEECHID" in players.dbf file, in that Michael Batiste's line of course. For number 8, fill in 9908 I think.

That's correct. If you want to assign "Number X" as a player's speech file, you just need to enter 99XX (where XX is the jersey number, making sure to place a zero before any single digit number).
If you want to assign a speech file with a surname, you can check out cpan.dbf (it's not stored in save folders but you can find it in originaldb) and refer to the appropriate SPEECHID value.
