Features Removed Each Year from NBA Live

Talk about any and all other basketball video games including NBA Jam, NBA Street, college basketball games, and more. General basketball video game discussion and comparison topics are also welcome here.

Yeah..nice to hear that..I wish EA would make a 'filter' option. For instance in the 'League leaders' screen add the ability to filter by position (PG, SG, SF, PF, C), years pro, stats per 48 minutes, by division, by conference etc..basically A LOT MORE stats.

Also I think that if EA doesn't make Live 08 Next Gen for PC, they should definitely make a new interface for the game..another console port would definitely ruin the game. Luckily all that and the full controller support in the menus were mentioned in the official wish list. It's up to EA to implement those features. So all we can do now is hope that this time around they will hear us and make these improvements that we have graved for so long.

I do think that Live 07 is way better than 06 and I'm not mad about EA because I think that basketball games have developed along very nicely over the years. The improvements haven't been that noticeable year-to-year basis, but in a decade basis they are astonishing to say the least..check out this video if you don't agree --> http://thatvideosite.com/video/3661

In Live 2000 you had the animated scoreboard, ie displaying the current score and the actual names of players on the court. I know that feature is neither on Live 2004 nor on Live 07...

I would love a real intro of the players with the voices of the original. things that you can buy for the team like Airplanes to travel well and be better for the game
change the tickets $$, things to buy in the stadium, gifs, and more...like in madden nfl 2004...change the city maybe...and a better Scout...I think they had to make like a world wide photo and you can chose the country..maybe a seach bar like..look forward to a C of such and such height weight and age...better comments because in the 2005 version the speakers are out off time...the off season would be better if you have some games before...that all I can think now there are a lot of changes...

I still cant figure out why EA scrapped 03/04 engine and replaced it with the current. Also why they removed the 3way trades I still remember one blockbuster deal that landed CWebb in Milwaukee Bucks  (NBA live 2001)

I also remember that in NBA Live 2000 you could see the progress each player was making as you progressed through the seasons in franchise/dynasy mode. I could see if someone was improving or degrading in certain areas, and I was sad to see that feature go.

Actually it was 06 when they removed back down from the keyboard.

And you double-posted. (Y)

"Actually it was 06 when they removed back down from the keyboard.

If you read my post, you will see that I did not say that they removed the feature for the first time in 2007. I merely stated that "in 2007 I was unable to backdown in the post with my keyboard." When I say that, I mean just that, and it is a true statement. I did not buy the 2006 game. If you're going to put someone down who is just contributing to the thread, at least have the ability to read at an adult (or 4th grade?) level. I did not see my suggestion up there, the intent of the post is....

Oh, Jao, I meant a bar graph display like in 2000. I'm sure that they will tell you during the offseason how many points he went up/down, but is there an actual graph that you can access during the regular season for trading purposes? I have not done 2007 dynasty; I hope they put that back in there, but if not, then I think it is a really nice feature that should still be there. Thanks :)

No offense meant there, just noticed that your second post came in after a minute. You could've edited your first post.

Unless they added that chart back in 07 it's still missing. It's an awful ommision since it actually requies you to remember past ratings of other teams free agents who you may want to go after.

Also stats in averages in player profiles as well as career year by year stats in the profiles - which they had in 2000 - would be nice.

Exactly. I loved that feature in NBA Live 2000, but it is now missing and should be added back. Add this to the list up top.

A little off topic but how anyone can play a modern sports game like Madden or Live on the keyboard is beyond me. Now Live 96 is possible it only has 3 buttons.

As much as I love new gaming systems, it almost seems the more they try to improve upon technology the more they take away. For me I will always be old school. They always try to add too much and end up removing some of the best features. Maybe they should hold some kind of voting on the site before removing them. Possibly they think the features aren't needed and no one will miss them with all the new features added. Just my opinion on it all.

I remember in Live 99 you could create complicated stats filtering strings. You could come up with your own PER, etc. I didn't have 2000 so I don't know if it was still there in 2000. I liked that feature.

I second the player progression as well--I liked seeing if a player was improving or declining each year.

I have a bunch more I'll post after dinner.

EDIT: Okay, I'm back, but I could only think of one more without playing the old versions which I don't have installed on my computer...lame of me I know.

In NBA Live 2003 - the nice looking lay-in where the guy power hops and lays it in with his shoulders square to the rim. I never see that in 2005 (my current version). That's kind of minor.

Was there a Live that had the generated rookies' last names actually said by the announcers and play-by-play?

By the way, one thing I absolutely love about 2005 is the color commentary and play by play. Considering how long I have played this game and how many hundreds of hours I've wasted on it, you'd think it would get repetitive--but so far it hasn't, and just the other day I heard a sequence I hadn't heard before. It's not perfect but it's very good.

Oh, I just thought of something! In 2003, the arena announcer would always announce if there was an assist, for example "Rayyyy Alllennnn! Assist by Rashard Lewis." In 2005, he only says it once in a while so you don't know if there was an assist or not.

O.T. -- I wish there was a slider for how long from pass to shot an assist could be recorded....

The bar graph in Dynasty Mode where you could see a player's development in all stats over his entire career has been missing since Live 2000. It was a tragic ommission and should be put back in, as ycsj29801 said.

i loved the player progress screen of NBA Live 99, instead of the bar graph, it shows you plus and minuses instead so you really have a direct way of seeing how much a certain player progresses. Plus the view player screen is more detailed like looking at their nba profile at nba.com. I'd love to see that feature come back someday. :D
