Experienced pc players report - Most sim-like game

Sun Sep 14, 2008 8:34 pm

I have read similar threads but Im getting mixed reactions..
Im looking for experienced players, not kids who say that 2008 is the best because of better graphics or sigshots and stuff like that.

I played live 2005 for a long time then 2006 but not much because of arcadey superstar moves..I didnt know you can turn it off back then..I dont remember how good or bad they are anymore..
never got 2007 and recently after watching basketball at olympics I got the urge to play the game and got 2008..

In 2008 version: 'I have Albys RR7 and kris gameplay fix and I have increased cpu shooting and decreased mine, set cpu layup/dunk blocking to 100 and when game starts set pressure for both teams to high but still there are undefendable things..like..I can go with fisher under the basket and do a layup among big men every single time and they cant do anything about it..
People who know how to play the game can score 100%. '

So which version with patches is most like the real basketball that rewards moving the ball around and really working to get the best shot and score and play different plays on every attack and occasionally pull of something spectacular..instead of 2008 version where it is the opposite

Is 2007 with patches any good or is 2006 better?

And why is live 2008 community so big and new patches come every day? Do they play the game or just look at it..

Unfortunately, you can't say that any current NBA Live game on PC rewards real basketball. I'd say 04 and 05 get the closest though, driving inside is very difficult in both unless you get open or pull a quick first-step move.

Yeah..but what the hell is EA thinking? That is bad game design. When you can easily drive to the basket every time and score why would you do anything else

How would you compare 06 without superstar moves to 05? I see that 06 got picked for some PC project..

And I see that 07 with some supreme mod is getting some praise and I have read that people have to work and use plays to score.. Is it true or is that 08 crowd talking?

I used to do stuff like that. I would actually play the aracde style in 03 and 04. Fast breaking and dunking at every opportunity. I got bored of it in 2005 and started to play more sim like, even if there was an issue of scoring near the basket.

Last time I played 05, I couldn't score very well near the hoop. Those block scenarios would happen all the time, which I believe is awesome. 06 is a bit easier, but the cpu can make up for it on offense since they actually use fast breaks pretty well.

FYI-There is a gameplay file that can globally change alot of things. I am going to work on it in the next few days as an update for my Live PC mod aiact. If edited properly it can cause these effects.-

Tougher defense near the hoop causing more collisions(and fouls, consequently).
More passing from the cpu AI. Example- passing out of a dribble drive when a help defender cust off the lane.
The side effect is that it can change the shot release timing for the user and cause those late and early release animations.

I was also the creator of the gameplay changes for the 07 SUM mod, and I can tell you it made things harder. I made it too hard at first, and people complained that the cpu always made a comeback, which is part of what I edited. I made the cpu ai more aggressive when losing in the second half. I still haven't found a way to edit the defense directly. Any result I come up with is a result of editing the offensive decision making.

ppl that played live 07 are very lucky not only bec of SUM mod but also ea released a patch to fix some major bug so it can be playable!!!!

live 08 is the worst version in pc because of the amount of MAJOR BUGS in it. the worst thing about it is EA didn't relase a patch to fix those bugs.

if your a mature sports video gamer w/c I believe you are, you should play 2K on nextgen console

BTW just wait for NBA LIVE PC, ppl who are developing it will give EA a run for there money andddddd MAKE HISTORY IN THE WORLD OF VIDEO GAME MODDING  (Y)

goto the nba live pc section then try the beta stuff that jaosming releases and also try pdub aiact, you will love it

06 has better graphic than 08 bec. of high resolution support like jersey(1024x1024) 8-)

CONCLUSION- 04=05=06>07>>>>>>>>>>08

Everybody including me was like that at some point. In 03 I used to put all the best players in the league in my team play easier difficulty and destroy the other team..i mean really destroy them by 5:1 scoring ratio. And I enjoyed it. But now that would be the most boring thing ever..
Now I want to tweak sliders so that my win lose ratio is 50:50 so that I have to work really hard for important games..
But in 08 I can win every game and watch tv at the same time..

So I think I will upgrade to 06 then, and wait for Live PC Project :)

What are good patches to have for the game in the meantime? Like updated rosters and stuff

06 remains my favourite PC release to date, it's possible to get some pretty good results with it which is the main reason we've selected it for the NBA Live PC project.
