I've been a fan of the franchise since I played NBA Live '95 back when I was a kid. And yeah, it's pretty depressing how bad it's gotten. Makes you wonder if they actually work with basketball players to refine the gameplay. I'm guessing not. I know Gilbert Arenas is a pretty big video game fan, and I bet he's embarrassed to be on the cover of this game.

What's even more sad is that prior to the game's release, they posted tons of retarded videos by the programmers about how this year was different, how they "listened to us" and improved gameplay. WOW, just WOW. How can these scum look straight into the camera and lie?

I just finished Call of Duty 4 for the 7th time. If you want to see the difference between people at the top of their profession and the dregs at EA, download the COD4 demo.

Very sorry you're not into it, but I'm curious, how did we lie?

We took tons of feedback from the community this year. Just asking for some detail.

EACRAZYlegs,

Well if you're really an EA rep as you purport to be, the lies are as follows:

In the video, you claim that quickstrike ball handling, post up moves, and all the new features touted were going to be in the game. There was no caveat that people with PS2's, PC's, Wii's, and PS3's were excluded. Additionally, you realized that the Superstar moves last year were overkill, but instead of toning it down, you removed that feature altogether. The dunk/layup button was removed and so was the player lock button. All the so-called improvements to the game were applicable only to the XBOX360 and PS3 versions.

So your claim that Gameplay was "improved" is a complete joke. No doubt that you're legally able to say it since it is an opinion, but I wager that 9 out of 10 of the fans here do not agree that 08 is an improvement of any kind.

I agree. NBA Live 2005 was better than NBA 08 in every way excluding the graphics. EAcrazylegs, I have no idea what has happened to this once-great series, but obviously something has happened not for the better since 9/10 educated gamers on this and any site will agree that it has obviously gone down hill dramatically since 2005. I don't know if it's laziness or a sever lack of innovation or what, but I hope the team at EA understands that something isn't working and that it needs to be fixed soon to get the game back on track.

Also, I have no idea why some common sense yet very useful features in earlier games have been just blatantly removed. Theses include, in no particular order: 29, 58, or 82 game seasons, Ability to edit player accessories, player lock, ability to save box scores (a simple .txt file will do, really), or player/rookie of the month - these were all great features of earlier games and have just been ignorantly removed from the game, seemingly for no good reason. Are these really so hard to include in the game? Why were they removed in the first place? I just don't understand why so many features are being removed and being replaced by other, more flashy but less useful features. Perhaps it is just laziness. I'm not trying to put down the team itself and the people, I'm just saying all of the NBA Live community wants you guys to get your act together.

Please keep in mind that the development team was changed for 08. They knew there was something wrong with the direction they were heading, so they decided to re-invent the gameplay, which was the focus of the 08 game. I believe they did a great job in this aspect, and created a solid 5 on 5 game. I can only see improvement in the future.

I definintely agree with the saving of boxscores, player lock and shorter seasons in dynasty mode. Maybe they thought players would adjust to using the situational intervention toward the end of games.

I remember reading somewhere that the player accessories were locked because of a bug that occured during gameplay. They didn't have the time to fix it, so they just locked the accessories. In my opinion, that is inexcusable. Delay the release, and fix an important aspect. At the very least, use team-color or white/black accessories for players so players who utilize dynasty won't have to look at clashing colors once players choose teams.

EA has been removing features for years. It's most likely that there focus and priority is adding new features to keep the game fresh every year. With that, if an older feature "breaks" while they are developing the new features, they just disable it.

I just bought 08 for the 360, but being used to 2K8, I feel that I have wasted money. I hope that I can enjoy the focus of the game, which is gameplay, so I can enjoy it with the online team play. The same thing happened when I first got 2K, too.

I don't know if EA has anything to do with this, but please reduce the price of the game in foreign countries. Games in Argentina are way too expensive.

Well, they failed miserably in improving Gameplay. Any sport video gamer could see how bad this game is just by spending 15 minutes with it.

For instance, let me give you a play by play of one possession in my last game (Spurs vs. Celtics). Duncan wide open. Parker bloops a pass to Duncan which takes 10 seconds to land. Duncan gets the ball but by then, surrounded by 3 defenders. Passes out to Ginobili who is open for a three. But the animation takes forever and by the time he catches and shoots, the defender is in his face. Missed shot. CPU Rondo fast break, leans right into my defender and I get whistled for a foul.

This is the same garbage each and every time. The cpu throws its players into my defenders and I get called for fouls. If I turn down the fouls, I get hammered on layups on the other side and never get a call. Pass animations are too slow. Worst yet, the bouncing players seem to repel each other as they collide. Wade's crossovers don't do anything to the cpu defender. There are not enough blocked jump shots. (sliders do dick for that) Can't rebound on missed FT's. No player lock (patch helps but I can still unlock myself in the game).

Basically, the game just feels awkward. They could've made it so much more fluid. Sharper passes. Guys saving balls inbounds. (Ball feels like it's on a string when dribbling and when passing.) Rebounds being tipped to your teammates, Players tripping on other players. No force fields between players. Enough bitching.

how much have you fiddled with the sliders? i agree with the blocking, sometimes i have both the shot blocking and layup blocking at 99 and it still does jack
