last year of 2k glory?

Fri Oct 15, 2010 12:42 am

You know, with the delay of ELITE 11,
EA may become more serious in making basketball games.

You guys all know what happened to FIFA and PES.
PES is miles ahead before
but in 09 FIFA completly owned PES.

This Jordan hype and all the crazy 2k sales may have alerted EA,
they only have 2 choices right now, cancel the franchise because it now delayed and may have lost more of the Live fans,
or they can reinvent the game and win back its customers.

Just a theory,
but we should watch out.

Real basketball fans made the switch to 2K back in '06... Elite/Live/Suck is done...

Til that tiime comes. My focus will be on 2k. Elite/Live needs a t.o. right now. I never thought this game would satisfy me more than nba live 10. Im still looking forward to the nba live 10 updates though.

Just because you turn your test in after the rest of the class left already doesn't mean your chances of ace-ing the test are any greater

EA for the vast majority of the titles under their wing has been half assing sport titles for decades, and treating gamers like chumps in the process. Ea needs to lose their exclusive licenses so 2k and others can jump in the ring and force them to actually innovate or gtfo.

Not that 2k walks on water their baseball title seems to trail the rest of the pack, but that just means they have to work harder to catch up.

Elite will most definitely not be better than 2k. For two reasons:
1. Mike (The gameplay director) returned to 2k and look what happened. Even when he was over EA's hq 2k was still rated better than live, so now that they lost such a big man that can improve your game by 30%, what's left? Not much..

2. Elite and Live's series were not encouraging realism. Gameplay was rather arcade than sim, graphics look cartoonish, while 2k is the complete opposite! Once I was playing 2k10 and my mom came into my room and said "hey, who's playing?", I said it was a video game, and she was like whaaaaat  . Anyway, if Elite is planning to do something to get the success that 2k has, and if they are actually gonna try anything, I'm sure it will just be another 2k game with the name Elite on it, just not as advanced. If Elite wants to have any impact on gamers at all, I suggest they keep doing what they are doing, at least they have loyal fans that will stick with them, plus people who enjoy basketball that Elite is presenting.

Mike Wang isn't the be-all and end-all of basketball video games, or the 2K series, or NBA Live 10.

Also, 2K11 still has a lot of room for improvement.

They already reinvented the "Live." They got the great game they were looking for in Live 10, but they didn't get the sales they wanted. So they tried to refresh it.

Elite won't be a miracle, but it can provide a good alternative to those who are "tired of the same ole" 2K game.

I wouldn't write anybody out.

Don't quote me,
but we should expect amazing improvements in LIVE within the next 2 or 3 years.

I'm quite of tired of 2k, basketball doesn't feel that real. I'm not saying the animations, the gameplay, the playcalling what not are not realistic, but you never get the feeling of playing basketball.
But
Like when you play live 10, although the players have relatively crappy models and animations, you feel that they actually exist, and when you shot the ball, you actually did shoot it,
this is something that I could never get in 2k,
I think they try too bad to make the game smooth

They didn't get the sales they wanted because they excluded the PC. Again. :shake: When will they learn?

2k will still be on top, Elite is a joke.

Besides PC version for 2k gives it a huge advantage :o

It would seem their mistake was trying to do too much in one year. Pat suggested in another thread that a better route might have been to build on NBA Live 10, addressing the flaws and enhancing what they could, while continuing to develop some of the good ideas they were going for in NBA Elite 11 and I'd tend to agree with that. There'd have been more polish upon the introduction of those new features and they could've had a solid game in between.

As for it being NBA 2K's last year on top, I wouldn't say that. I think they'll continue to improve and innovate and it would be great if EA could do the same with Elite/Live. The ideal would be to have at least two quality NBA video games available to us, on multiple platforms including the PC, each being capable of delivering the experience we want (with enough customisation options to allow that to be feasible, since not everyone's looking for the same experience) but with their own way of doing things for people who prefer a certain approach to controls or ESPN Integration or the presence of Michael Jordan and classic teams. In short, two quality basketball sims with their own approach to controls and extras so that each has their own appeal. That's what I'd like to see.

If youre a fan of basketball you want both games to be good. I hate to see EA's basketball series going down especially since i grew up playing just about all of their basketball games. But then again you have to take your hats off to 2k theyre pretty damn good. It wouldve been more interesting to see how far Mike Wang wouldve taken the Nba Live Series though. Its no fun just having one good game.

EA has some massive games to work with, they don't have much time to improve live. The last Live I played and actually loved is NBA live 2005, but I played live 10 on PSP, it's pretty damn good, because I'm not used to it. And 2k10 on PSP is for wimps, seriously, it's really easy. I even tried to make everything 75 on their sliders, and still, they can't win. And they don't even dunk the ball to the hoop.

All of the psp versions of nba live are good and for some odd reason were always better than the pc versions gameplay wise. Nba live 07 was horrible on everything but psp.

Because NBA live 07 is much easier to deal with.
