Live 06 was one of the worst games EA put out, and there's a LOT of work they need to do. Even if we do send them a wishlist, EA's lazy butts are always tending to the mass market, where they can make tons of money. FSS was a great gimmick and it helped sell 06. Here's my list anyway, in no particular order:
1. Completely change the rebounding logic. It's been terrible the past 3 years, and a countless number of times the ball reaches the ground before anyone touches it. I hate when you're standing 1 foot away from the hoop, press triangle to rebound, and go launching 5 feet away from the basket. Superstar rebounding is even worse, and is pretty much a hit or miss type of thing.
2. Rework the passing logic. This is another part of the game that really bothers me. Besides the animations from being horrible, there are too many lob passes to my liking, and it's way too easy for the CPU to pick the ball away from you, even if you just caught the ball down in the post.
3. Balance out the defensive ai. 06's is much worse than 2005's. The CPU's defensive ai good as you see a lot of movement, help defense, and defensive matchup switches. The problem is that the defensive ai on the human side is just horrible. Whenever my team gets back on D after a missed shot, the PG slides under the basket, and my bigs are hovering around the perimeter. Make the players slide right into their defensive formations.
4. Tweak the height factor. Height factors too much into gameplay, as it makes it easier for the taller guys to shoot, rebound, and block shots. I'm sure it has been tweaked since 2004, but it needs more.
5. Change the fastbreak logic. Yeah, EA fixed the stop and catch problem, as players can now catch the ball in stride, but fastbreak logic is still stupid. If i want to push the ball, my teammates don't even run unless i'm using the turbo button.
6. Eliminate or at least regulate freestyle superstars. I always wanted EA to instead use player tendencies, but that seems unlikely; the best they can do is to include more ratings for the players. The execution of fss pretty much changed the whole flow of the game. It's way too easy to score with this system, and leads to a huge uneven distribution of the ball (extreme to the point where someone like Joe Johnson can average 36 FGA/G). There needs to be a superstar slider, or as someone said in the beginning of the forum, an affect on fatigue whenever you use a superstar move.
6. Fix these damn bugs. There were to many in 06 to count. Sometimes when the CPU is dribbling up the court, they just decide to slide out of bounds for some reason. Another bug is when i'm controlling a player, sometimes it "sticks" to another and trying to get free is a hassle. "Skating" still needs to be fixed. Another huge problem is that if you knock the ball away when the CPU is inbounding, it counts as a turnover; clearly there hasn't been a change of posession, and clearly it shouldn't be calculated as a turnover. One that just kills me, even though i admit to abusing it, is that you can draw a charge easily, even if you're in the restricted area.
7. I want overall realism. I want 20 second timeouts, clear path fouls, flagrant fouls. I want GOOD cutscenes back as well as instant replay. The flow of the game is still a bit quick, and the lack of instant replay and cutscenes is one of the reasons why. I want better presentation (ESPN's deal starts this year I think, so hopefully the design can at least look pretty). The PC version should have it's own PC friendly interface, not one with so many different screens. The commentary is just horrible. I'm 1 minute in the first quarter, and I score my 2nd FG of the game just to here Kerr saying, "They've been getting open shots all night, Marv." I want better and more fluid animations (players just look akward passing and dribbling the ball). The graphics aren't great either, and the player models look all cartoony again. I actually liked the 2005 models better. The lighting is too intense on the players, and the court lighting is horrible. Ball physics are much better in 06, even though they could still use some work.
8. Continue building on the dynasty mode. IMO Dynasty mode is fun, but still a bit too linear. EA should loosen up the offseason where players can freely do what they want if it's signing a coach, signing a player, scouting, or trading. The PDA is annoying, and I really don't want a message saying how another player on a different team has improved his inside scoring. I want all the new revisions of the CBA like the six year max. I want old rules that aren't in the game like the MLE. Hell, maybe even player/team options on contracts. Team chemistry can also play a factor. I also would like if Live could have a hot/cold system, similar to that of the 2K series. EA should also fix that primacy changing business, as it could really screw up the entire team. I'd also like interactive team/individual practices ranging from shooting drills to weightlifting to running to maybe even scrimmages. I also want better logic with generated rookies. Besides the height (with 6'1" SG's everywhere) the generated ratings are TOO random, and need to be limited somewhat. For example, most SG's should have a fg rating of 60-75, PG's with a passing rating of 70-80, big men with rebounding ratings of 65-75, all swingmen with a quickness and speed rating between 65-80, and all bigs with a quickness and speed rating between 45-65, with of course exceptions. I hate rookies who are amazing in almost all aspects, but have 23 quickness and 46 speed.
The strides from 2004 to 2005 were great, but there weren't any from 2005 to 06. If it weren't for the PC version, then I would currently be playing 2K6 on my PS2. If anything the series took a major step back. Hopefully EA can fix a lot of these problems, and if not I might just switch to playing 2K6 next year.
