Dynasty focused [Simulation Engine] patch

Talk about NBA Live 07 here.

Postby michaelc37 on Thu Nov 30, 2006 7:27 am

Sounds good, just one thing i want to point out to you, about if player passes more, he scores less.

what if there is a player that has great passing ability but he is still more of a scorer, than a passer. you might not want to reduces his scoring.

and about "(since player can be many at once and I don't want to cut down on good scorer because he is also a playmaker." , you dont have to cut down.
all you do is increase primacy if the player is a good scorer, and leave normal pg passing primacy if he isnt. And even though you can change freestyle superstar types, there is still a default one, which shlouldnt be changed unless u know that it will afect simmed stats. i say just change superstar during a gameplay if you need to...

Yes, that would be true. But. Look at LeBron this year, he passes alot and thus his scoring has taken a hit. I'm not talking about big numbers here, but the thing is that if a player gets a ball, he has two choices. Try to score, or try to help another player score. If one favors the other then the other gets a hit. And since there's no 31PPG 10APG player in the league right now, it makes sense in a way.

I mean just a minor change in primacy depending on offensive awareness and passing, nothing big.

I don't know have you guys are doing it but I can't get the league leaders above 23-24 ppg. The league leader was Gasol with 25, then came others with less than 23... And LeBron scores 16 even with Hughes' and Ilgauskas' off.awarness and primacy ratings lowered to about 60. Still both score about 15 ppg. That's only a point lower than Bron who has off awarness & primacy ratings at 99... :x It works well for some teams and doesn't seem to have any affect on others. :?

The patch works on assists though (Y)

Are you following all instructions? You -have- to run MAIN FIX at least every ingame week (ideally after every injury-trade, but every week is perfectly alright) because NBA Live resets these ratings whenever a trade-injury happens (and running MAIN FIX always fixes those ratings).

Yes, just remember to run FATIGUE FIX only once (but you don't have to. This just redistributes fatigues of 0-99 to 0-84. Alternative is to stick to MAIN FIX, which just caps 84 (does not rebalance anything below it. 84 fatigue is required so that players would get fatigued during game)

And yes, MAIN FIX can be applied to any and every dynasty, no matter how many years into it. It basically does the same thing NBA Live 07 does, calculated primacy ratings to the teams. NBA Live just calculates it a bit off, and this is why this patch is for, to fix that problem. You should run it once per ingame week though (I usually run it before starting NBA Live 07).

And run ROOKIE FIX in your second dynasty year. (again, you don't have to run it since it does the same thing FATIGUE FIX does, but ROOKIE FIX only works on new generated rookies in new teams).

ok, I admit, I don't. I use the fatigue fix, I use your simeng.txt, I lowered (or increased) everyone's off. awareness ratings MANUALLY. But instead of using your MAIN FIX, I use Mark's Primacy Fix 07.bat. It updates everyone's primacy ratings and I use it every single day in the dynasty and I get the aforementioned results...

If I understand correctly then Main Fix recalculates everybody's primacy rating based on off.awareness rating but I do it manually so basically it's the same and I should get the same results. Am I wrong?

Anyway, I'll try to use your and only your patch and see if I get better results tomorrow...

Marks patch just sets primacy across the league, but his ratings in primacy are too high on some players. His fix does work but has no automatic calculation options which are needed at least after one year in the league.

I suggest using mine and having offensive awareness high on team leaders (or at least similar to EA's default settings), since I use that as the base part of my primacy calculation. After I release my next version, the primacy will take into account even such cute things like player experience, team chemistry, whether a player is a known superstar or not, bench order and the like.

Idea is the same as Marks (I got the idea from him to make a primacy redistributing patch, just took a completely different approach) so there should not be too much of a problem.

Okay, but one thing i don´t understand is if this patch works with any rosters. I´m using a 98 rosters ( with Jordan, barkley, and the stars from that era)...Will this fix be able to work with that roster, or i´m gonna have some problem with that??

Nope, no problems. You migth have some unrealistic stats, but not too much (since 97-98 roster really overrates some players). Of course before trying it out, make a backup and simulate few games and check box scores, but there should not be any problems.

All it does is exactly what NBA Live 07 does after every trade/injury, it just does it differently. It -only- affects primacy, nothing else. And fatigue as well, but that is not a problem either.

Just always make backups before testing this, just in case.

Am not sayin your logic is completely wrong. but think about it, last year lebron was knocking down 30PPG i think; Are u saying that to get him to do that again in simulation i might have to decrease his passing?
And you might not want to decrease one rating cuz he is high in another.

LeBron scored 27.6 6.8 last season, and no, as I said I won't make the impact so large on SF position as it is in PG position (and it's average of the two in SG)

Ah, yes of course. Watched the wrong line. Well, ~27 that he is scoring right now, and considering the fact that Cleveland default roster has Hughes not injured, makes sense. Hopefully my next version will have LeBron around 27PPG 7APG in a season but don't bet on it. I repeat that I'm not aiming for player accuracy since these can be tweaked with player ratings directly.

It affects the game when i play too??

No, from what I use primacy is not used ingame. Which is a shame.

Oh, that´s bad...'Cause i really want to get over this pg dom in my game, i thought that maybe adjusting the primacy the other team pg's would share more the ball...I´m using the 98 rosters, so i can't find a patch for pg dom to my rosters...Well, i guess i'll have to watch the pg's go all over me...LOL

It's not PG dom, it's in fact guards domination, it's just that PG is the more dominant of the two.

There are ways to fix this so-called domination. Use man to man defense (with pressure on guards maybe), play in superstar (alot less domination problems compared to all star), use game speed below ~38, have on ball defense assist User slider quite high (~60). Probably few other things as well, but I've forgotten most.

Thanks for the tips, it helped A LOT my game...I played with Chicago against the Orlando, and for the first time in this NBA game i really saw the other team sharing the ball, i got decent stats even playing with 5 min quarters. A. Hardaway shoot a lot, but that´s okay, 'cause he is actually the Orlando star.

If u remember any others sliders tweaks let me know.

And u´re patch really works, i got decent stats from simulated games! Nice Work (Y) (Y) (Y)

Thanks :)

The next version will take a while more of testing before release. It had a find things I was not satisfied with. I had Kobe and McGrady score 34PPG the first season, but some players like Wade had hard time scoring alot, and after Jermaine O'Neal was traded to Atlanta for Joe Johnson he pulled off a 37PPG season.

So it needs some more tweaking. Stats themselves work very well by now though, I just need to tweak few positional characteristics.

WOW! Your patch may have brought me better results than needed, lol. I had 5 players averaging more than 30ppg after I simulated november with Kobe averaging eye-popping 37ppg!!!

major props, man (Y) now I can fully enjoy my dynasty.

EDIT: Ok, I've cooled down a bit and after examining the stats closer, I noticed one common fault - the centers and some PFs score too few points while PGs are too good. Only Yao (26ppg) and J.O'Neal (24ppg) were very good. The rest were very poor... infact nobody had more than 10 ppg (including Shaq, Okur, Ilgauskas and others)... Some PFs were also bad - Jamison had less than 10, D.Howard, Bosh and Boozer were around 15 while Deron W. & Jameer N. had 19 and T.J.Ford had 18ppg.

I guess I just have to increase some Cs and PFs off.awareness ratings and test some more...
edit: It works - for high scoring big men off awareness rating has to be higher than for a high scoring point guard (80-85+ vs. 70-75)

Overall - excellent, you're definitely on the right track.

Yes Im aware that current version does not favor most PFs and Cs. Will be fixed in update, just needs more testing :)

I presume it doesn't affect stats when you simulate and intervene?

At least thats not my experience. (LeBron with 8 points at the start of the 4th)

I am guessing so. Most likely the engine automatically recalculates the primacy in intervene simulation mode thus messing it all up.

By the way, does anyone know how to use two database files for one cdbflite command? Well, I seem to have got it to work, but there was certain condition there that wrote thousands of empty lines into players.dbf as a result.

I want to make it so that Height adds and reduces primacy (aka the Yao Ming - Mugsy Bogues effect). Problem is that height is written down in Appearance.dbf and not Players.dbf. While what I read from help files, adding another database with +appearance.dbf command, should help, I've failed to write in the next commands.

I read from authors website that it's possible in another dbf editor to equal different values, aka playerid=appearid and then just do things as usual, but I didn't find such an option with cdbflite. Anyone knows more?

I dont think that's necessary, Chris.
Players' heights are somewhat already taken into account in their primacy, rebound and block ratings
and using player's heights to affect the primacy is somewhat redundant if you know what i mean.
Maybe you should just average out reb and blk ratings and use them as an indication for a player's height.

Still, most short guys who survive in the NBA are really quick and they are usually involved in the offense a great deal, for e.g. AI, Boykins, D.Stoud.
