Give Us a Smile, Vlad!

Damn that next-gen NBA Live trailer looks hot. The dual-focus camera tricks, the insane detail on the basketball in the foreground, the beads of sweat trickling down the necks of players, the sweet animations. About the only thing the trailer is missing (beyond any hint on how the gameplay will be, of course) is realistic facial animations. Compared to the insane Fight Night 3 demo during the PS3 E3 press conference, which put a huge graphical emphasis on the elasticity of the fighters' faces, the players in the NBA Live trailer--recognizable though they are--look bored and barely animated, as if they were all forced to watch a Darko Milicic highlight reel.
Presumably there's still plenty of time to shore up the graphics of the game and add some verve to those Frankenstein-like grills--and frankly, if it came down to a choice between animated virtual faces and a better transition game (something the Live series has been desperately in need of for years), I'd obviously choose the latter. Still, would it hurt Vlad Radmanovic to mix in a smile here and there?
