NBA Live 06 Cover Athlete + First Screens

Postby Andreas Dahl on Tue May 10, 2005 5:54 am

Today EA Sports announced the cover athlete for the next version on NBA Live. And it is, as some guessed, Mr Flash himself - Dwane Wade of the Miami Heat. Wade will be the cover athlete as well as the spokesman for NBA Live 06 that will come out some time in mid-October.
Wade wrote:"This is quite an honor to be named cover athlete of NBA LIVE in just my second year as a professional,” Wade said. “When you look back at some of the great players who have had this opportunity, it’s exciting to be a part of the EA SPORTS family and contribute to a game I’ve been playing for more than 10 years.”
EA Sports wrote:NBA LIVE 06 builds upon the depth and authenticity that the NBA LIVE franchise has delivered for more than a decade and that made last year the best-selling version in the history of the series. With advancements in gameplay and enhanced player graphics, the sport of basketball is elevated to a whole new level in NBA LIVE 06 with the superstars of the game looking and playing more like their real-life counterparts than ever before. Players can feel the emotion and intensity of the complete basketball experience with an up-tempo, fast-break, and physical brand of basketball that yields improved play in the transition game and real-life collisions in the paint.

EA Sports, along with the announcement of their cover athlete, also released three screenshots from the upcoming game:

Yea, he was a solid choice I think.

And the screens looks pretty promising I think. The graphics seems to have gone throught a small overhaul, although it seems like it's only the players that has the new graphics so far. The moves are the same as in 2005 as well as the player-models. For some reason they remind me of the graphics from ESPN 2k5, but better...

Great Choice by EA! Now if they fix the hundreds of other mistakes, this game will be pretty solid.

Flash is a good choice. The screens look alright, player models are better than 05, but still... a bit weird. I mean the lower body should be a bit stronger than that. Cant tell too much difference at this point, we will see soon.

Very nice, Dwyane Wade is the right man on the cover allright...

Regarding the screen, I must admit they look awesome, but the immediately send trmors down my realism spine.. saying "oh God, the gameplay is going to suck, still 20 bpg, too many floor waxing slides... they just spent the whole shabang on graphics and forget to raise the level of the gameplay".

My 5 cents worth
- Throw a cup of coke at me when I'm working out? and yes, I will bash your head in! Punish the thrower, not the target! Sheeesh

Nice scoop Andreas (y)
I think it's a great choice with Dwyane Wade as a coverboy (y)

No it ain't, look at the details on the body and the lightning. You can now see the the muscles on the players (y) and the jersey's are for the first time "jowesome" (Y)

HOLY SHIT! Shimmery Heat Jerseys.

It looks awesome, if you look at the crowd, EA changed that too. :D

Hopefully, this Live won't be a flaming shithole like '05 whereas I always freeze up. (I play ESPN. Flame Me. :( )

I think the graphics are great!! They remind me a little NBA street vol 2, at least the type of lightning. I got surprised with the jersey lightning, it's realistic. The game should be at 10% done, so it's soon to critizice. They're doing a good job.

And I think Wade is the right selection. But here in Spain we may have another future spanish NBA player in our cover, like Fran Vázquez or Rudy Fernandez. I prefer Wade, really.

i think steve nash or lebron, considering that they have a good season are also a good cover but wade is a nice choice..

from the looks of the screenshot, it still doesnt have any expression. (N)
but the other aspects like the jerseys, body and shoes are good (Y)

yo Dahl....Thanks for puting it all in one thread, much cleaner this way.

I hope these are gameplay screens. I am suprised they did not tease us with some Hi-Res screens this year. They always do!! (bastards)

jxuusa made a similar thread. might wanna merge it or something

here's what I posted there:

why does the graphics look like that of ESPN 2K5's???

Wade's a good choice. He's becoming quite popular now plus he's having a great season with Shaq

Dwyane Wade's a fine choice. As I said in the other thread, I really like those screens. I see quite a bit of improvement from NBA Live 2005, particularly the lighting and the textures. Could be just me, but the crowd looks a little better as well. The faces, headshapes and player models for Wade and Joe Johnson look awesome. (Y)

Not in those screens at least. We can't accurately judge the complete improvements (or lack thereof) to the graphics, models, physics and collision detection on those early screenshots. But the few cosmetic details that are revealed in those screens are very nice, in my opinion.

The screens are early, so who knows, but the proportions of the players bodies are still a little odd, they didn't get that too well...

It's an improvement though, and gives something to look forward to..

Hmm... we've gone through cartoon syndrome, chunky player syndrome and now we're going to have Ethiopian syndrome. Have a look at them, the players are all rail thin and their heads are too big for their bodies  I'm not overly optimistic about it early on, that being said I've grown so fond of ESPN's gameplay that I might not even buy the game this time around.

lol... this year... i'm gonna wait until the game has come out half a year before i buy it.... cos since 2003 .. i've asked ppl on this forum one month into the release whether the game is good... and they always say its awesome, but about 6 months later, they start finding heaps of bugs and repetitive things that make the game annoying.

Some of the euphoria is going to wear off though. And unless you play 82 game seasons with 12 minute quarters, you're probably going to advance through the game rather quickly and move on to something else. Having said that, I can't blame you for your approach and from a financial standpoint, it's wise spending too. ;)
