Trading Draft Picks

Postby [L3]1101 on Mon Mar 21, 2005 2:39 pm

I wish for the next Live, teams should be able to trade their 1st and 2nd round draft picks as easily as trading players. In the real nba, i see teams trading players for draft pick quite often for salary cap reasons or whatever. I can never trade my draft picks even few days before the deadline. Not only should we be be able to trade draft picks, we should also be able to trade draft picks for the next couple of seasons as well, as this is also common in the NBA.

And i have a question.... i hope you guys would know the answer to this as i am confused. I see real nba teams trading players and waive them right after. Now, according to the LIVE rules, the team still need to pay the player whatever he's contract is... so what's the purpose of trading and waive them right afterwards?? An good example would be Gary Payton. Atlanta got him from the deal, and waived him right after. Why not keep him?

thanks

NBA teams usually make those trades when players have expiring contracts. It's basically a way of getting rid of players that nobody wants and also circumventing the salary cap. Boston was essentially able to trade Gugliotta and Michael Stewart for Antoine Walker, something they couldn't have done without throwing in Payton as well. In many cases, players are included to make trades work under the salary cap but are then waived because:

a) The other team doesn't need/want them
b) Teams can only have 15 players

That's something that would make trading in NBA Live a lot better, the ability to make trades that leave teams with more than 15 players; however, just as in real life the team would have to trim its roster to 15 after the trade.

(Yes, it did go in the Wishlist. ;))

ah, i didn't really think about the roster. That would make more sense.

But, after doing the trade, for Payton's case, Boston still had money to sign Payton back? How much is he getting paid, like 5-6 mil? But isn't the celtics over the cap, i'm guessing, as pretty much all the teams are over the cap except maybe for Bobcats....
it's very interesting how the cap system works in the NBA.

anyways, i wish the LIVE series would improve the trading system more in detail like in the NBA, cause i love the trading part in LIVE!!! I FEEL POWERFUL!!!

There are exceptions and loopholes, which Boston took advantage of to get Payton back after the Hawks waived him. I think the next step for Dynasty Mode is to include details such as the the mid-level exception, as well as continuing to improve the features currently in place.

I wish that NBA live 2006 will make the CPU controlled teams more trading players. It seldom that the CPU contolled teams make a trade during the regular season up to the trading deadline. To make it realistic more trade transactions on the CPU Contolled teams.
