NBA Live 06: Freestyle Superstars from IGN

Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

Postby Silky Smooth Vlade on Thu Jun 16, 2005 3:57 am

Hopefully, I can take Nash or Magic, and let them make a pretty pass to an open teammate.

My thoughts exactly. Since I've been a fan of the NBA, my favorite position has always been the point guard. Yet whenever I play Live the PG spot always seem worthless. Maybe this year there will actually be a point in having a Kidd or a Nash. One of the greatest joys of basketball is making a great dish in the open court, and it looks like '06 might just capture that.

I am kind of worried that the star status that allows these moves is limited to one for each team. While for most teams are like this, that they only have one offensive and one defensive star, well you got teams like Phoenix and Miami for example. Who is the offensive superstar on those teams??? Nash or I'd say Stoudemire is a strong candidate too... Wade and O'Neal are too two very good offensive players that can dominate.

Still no word on the dynasty mode... This usually means that it hasn't had too much work done on it... Can you blame them... They've redone all the graphics for the next generation consoles and have worked out some new freestyle stuff...

I still hope that we will get something new on the mode that keeps us glued to our chairs... Dynasty is the one and only mode that truly is the game. Gameplay is a big one too, but dynasty is what keeps us playing. If there was no dynasty mode, I wouldn't even buy the game... And I believe 95% of you people would be ready to sign to that...

The Richards guy mentioned about listening to the fans... There's someone reading these forums... Come on, who is it??? There has been great questioning about the effectiveness of wishlists lately and a direct comment to that was added in an interview, so someone is out there... We have a mole among us... Who is it???

Tim still browses the forums judging by his "Last Visited" time... so that'd be it. Although if they were listening to the fans, I'd like to meet the one who remotely suggested anything like this superstar freestyle thing.

Is there anyone that thinks that the producer on one of the videos looks a bit high? I hope that's a good sign.

AHAHAHHAHAHAA! Pay more attention to actual games, dude.

Anyway, nowhere did it say these dunk were "unblockable". Remember there's sliders for in-air collision fequency and stuff like that so you can tailor to your own preferences. As for me, I DID find it frustrating when playing 05 with the Suns and Amare does these pussy little layups or dunks when you KNOW in real life he'd be hammering that shit. Look at the Conference finals... how many dunks did he get in game 5? A BUNCH. That's his game.

As for the "advantage" these moves may give you, the only real added gameplay advantage is the fake pass and to a moderate extent the bounce pass. Do you REALLY think that a behind the head pass to a player cutting down the lane is going to be any more or less effective than a regular old pass?

But it will FEEL more exciting when the great players make these great plays and to me that will bring a great feel to the game that perhaps 05 was missing a little bit.

I don't think the "tip ins" (last years new feature) was overused at all... and there was a slider for it anyway...

Why is there so much NBA Live 2003 hating in this thread?
I think we can all agree that this game is going to be like 03 but like many people said theres gonna be sliders to control the speed of the game to make it realistic. And I am also concerned that there is not much news about the dynasty mode. That is the mode where we spent 95% of the time. So they have to release more about that. I hope there are some nice, cool, good and unbeliveable addons to the dynasty mode.
NBA Live 2003 is the best game ever made.

That was a suggestion for players signature moves, that gets mentioned basically every year. This isn't like that because the moves aren't specialised to any player, it's just general skills certain rated players will be able to do.

i agree with you T-Comm55 110%. we spend almost all of our time in dynasty mode so there should be a few new features added in nba live 2006.

Specific improvements/additions of the "little things" to Dynasty Mode generally don't make the official "key features" list unless they're a brand new feature (such as the PDA).

The NBA Live series just keeps getting better.....I liked the new vids and it looked awesome but i just wanted to know y they didnt move like they did for the xbox360. I understand they are different consoles of two deffirent technology but i am just concerned that they are focusing more on the xbox 360's version to that of the older consoles? And another thing......some of the screens look terrible. But overall i am looking forward to the new addition. I will probably end up buying both the ps2 and xbox360 versions i am just exited. And I would also like to thank the moderators of www.nba-live.com(I used to browse nbalive.org), u have really put together a good nba live site for the past two years I've been watching over this site day and night. ITS GOOD TO BE BACK!

look at tony allen and steve francis they also give bounce passes to themselves for the dunk so i think it's realistic and fun.

Apparently, they said if you use some of the moves too much then you may be called for fouls of over aggressiveness or something... but I think.. maybe seeing a guy land awkwardly after one of those power dunks and sprain an ankle or something would be nice, better than the current one, where there has to be a foul in order for an ingame injury to occur.

Thanks Zaniac, always good to hear we're doing something right. The NLSC's been around since 1996 though. ;)

Yesterday ia played NBA Live 2003 and noticed that there is more dribble moves than this year, sweet dribblings with Iverson and those little break movies 4 example when i shot down three with A.Walker one guy from team came and celebrated him.In 06 we need to bring back that cool stuff and put in whats good not to experiment somthing ''extra original'',they should fix the bad stuff after bring something new.Bring back ability in-game save, fix that silly skating effect, players should't whatch only in one point(like robots),bring back those sweet layups(like in 03),more shooting styles, celebrating, better net animation(becouse when i shot down 3pointer i need to think''Did the ball goed through the net?'')
CPU should make trades in Dinasty Mode. They shouldnt spent that much time with all-star weekend becouse its just the smallest piece of cake.

Live 2005 Dynasty Mode is pretty good but not great. However, I can't think of too many new add-ons to the Dynasty Mode mmm maybe because it's freaking late now but yeah I guess:

-3 way trading is good
-All the legends should come back! please bring MJ back! and others like Jerry West, so on and so forth.
-Improved the whole draft section. In real life the Nba Draft is a big deal and it should be a big deal in Nba Live 2006 as well.

On another note, I think there will be a discrepancy assigning the superstar status on very good players but not at the superstar level and I give the perfect example "Shawn Marion." He is very good in almost everything however I don't think he's a superstar at least not at the same level of Kevin Garnett.

I have a bad feeling that the new freestyle superstyle will be as strong as freestyle in 03 or the pro-hop in 05. It is pretty interesting and signature moves are something I've been dreaming for a long time, but probably you will be able to abuse it and create another dunkfest/trickfest. It will be so strong that probably in nba live 07 they'll make a "defensive freestyle superstar" or something like that to counter it, and then the freestyle superstar will be obsolete...I'm very worried..

I think year after year, the game's gonna have more freestyle moves...
Then we'll need to setup more buttons..
Maybe soon we'll be playing Live in a virtual simulation room.
We do that, and the computer does that.

They didn't mention anything about signature moves, did they? I think they mentioned special skills by certain players depending upon their overall rating hence these are not signature moves but I may be wrong.
