There's really no point in squashing this guy's attempt at work, here. He said flat out it was his first try. I'm not sure if you patch or not, but if you don't you ought to keep a tight lip, and if you do, then I'd wager your first effort was along the same lines here. It's better to encourage to improve than to simply state that somebody's hard work is no good.
