Why I hate sliders

Wed Nov 30, 2005 5:07 am

OK the fact that you can adjust the game the way you like is cool...sort of

But I can't stop thinking that by doing that we're doing EA's job : game balance!!!!

Seriously now they only have to focus on rendering players the best way they can. They add a few things here and then and release the game. Whether it is playable is not their problem anymore! Adjust the sliders!!

As lots of you guys think the game is actually better without the superstar moves which makes this addition useless.

I like the overall idea of being able to twink the game the way I like but if it is to let EA escape with the most important aspect of a GAME, GAMEPLAY, I'd rather not have this freedom and LET THEM DO THEIR JOB. I am not paying 50 effing bucks to spend hours trying to figure out how the game balance should be adjusted, I am paying to PLAY.

OK sorry for this post but I had to voice my angry opinion.

Peace

I think that in a way, EA is making us rely on sliders a bit too much. I'd rather just let sliders be a tiny modifier that adds finishing touches to your personal perference. I have nothing against this, but it does tget a little time consuming to modify your sliders to the right fit, especially since some things like offensive rebounding can't be fixed.

I agree on both cases. Most people think the sliders are great (me included) but that's only because EA's gradually making us rely on them more and more. I mean we'll all come and argue that we need sliders to make the game realistic etc, but as you said in the first post, isn't that EA's job primarily or are they just going to make a game where large shiny men run around and we can figure out the rest.

It has been a gradual thing too.... every year and every Live we've needed to adjust the sliders just a little bit more, until now in Live 06 where we've basically got to overhaul the entire gameplay just to enjoy it. Bit ridiculous really.

Ok for the person that started this topic. I think thats a really dumb opinion.

Maybe some people like EA's settings "maybe the people that made it".
I would say they aren't huge basket ball Sim fans sence they know how to program computer games.

Then again who the hell said LIVE is a SIM or an NBA JAM type game. Or even a mixture. If you can't set sliders I really feel sorry for you because thats easier then most fast food jobs.

Personally I don't think I Have seen anyone set thier sliders exactly the same way I like mine.

It doesn't take as long as you say eather took me 5 minutes and its the best thing I have seen for a BasketBall game. Everyone has thier opinion diffrent on how every setting should be. Just because the simple face some people can play better at certain things then other people.

Lets say you suck ass at rebounding so you set the slider all the way up. Now lets say I am better then Rodman times five so do I really need that slider all the way up??? Hell no I don't I aint no noob ass rebounder so I set it low.

Same with every other slider on the game most people will play it diffrent.

So EA probably has a 1% chance of getting the game EXACTLY the way YOU wan't it. Think about it...

Having created my own slider sets, and I'm releasing another version soon, let me say that getting good sliders takes an awful long time, and can be very frustrating. For these reasons alone, EA should have made the default settings at least somewhat playable.

yea i think ea should made the game so balanced that some ppl said 2k6 was....
sry if i offend someone =/
but thats the true right?
nba live <-- means the game should be played like what the original nba players play like....
i saw ppl saying that nba 2k6 if really realistic...so if ea could made nba live as realistic as 2k6 that we dun need to adjust sliders wouldnt that be a good thing?
=)

I see your point.
As I said, I like the idea of being able to tweak the game settings and adjust the gameplay because, as you said we all have our preferences.

To me sliders were fine in the previous versions but this year I think the standard settings are just not good at all. It looks like the programmers did not even bother to balance anything and I don't like that.

I too would like to see the default sliders geared more towards realism than being overly uptempo and inviting dunkfests. However, I don't think the sliders should go because without them, we don't have any chance of altering the gameplay if we're not exactly happy with the game as it is out of the box.

The other benefit of sliders of course is that if the game no longer proves to be challenging, you can tilt the game heavily in the CPU's favour forcing you to play to the absolute best of your ability to get the win. No matter how good the gameplay might be or may become, these days sliders are essential in my opinion.

I agree Andrew,
but i imagine Ea could create 3 or 4 default profiles so people who don't want to play the "tweak the sliders" game, can just choose one of these balanced profile and play directly with a good level of realism.
The other players will still be able to continue to tweak the game to make it better.
But maybe am I asking a bit to much ...

Sat Dec 03, 2005 6:22 am

sure sliders are foolish cuz EA couldn't confirmed itself to make a REALISTIC game...

I wouldn't mind that, though I think the default one should be pretty much spot on out of the box. ;)

yea, I still think if its that hard for them they will still get confused and bitch about it. Lol

You would hear "How come it doesn't have the slider profile 3 as the default slider config."
