Andrew, will you edit player ratings in your first roster update, or will you update the lineups first (trades, free agent signings and such) and edit player ratings in future releases?

I'm just asking because I'd like to know if you're already open for suggestions on the player ratings.

Wed Sep 21, 2005 9:58 pm

I expect the first update will mostly be a transactions update but I might as well get a head start on updating ratings for the existing players too.

Wed Sep 21, 2005 10:21 pm

Also Andrew, will it have SOME missing players....we, well I dont expect all, or many or much to be there, but just wondering if the first update will have the likes of Salim Stoudemire, Daniel Ewing etc.?

Wed Sep 21, 2005 10:35 pm

Uh, yeah...that's pretty much the point of a current roster update, to update the rosters so they reflect reality. ;)

Wed Sep 21, 2005 10:58 pm

Yeh...sorry, I just thought maybe you would release a roster update, 1.0, with the players that are already in the game but without the missing players.
And then another update, 1.1, adding the missing players

Wed Sep 21, 2005 11:48 pm

That would be easier but it's just delaying the inevitable...and is just inviting a whole lot of emails/posts asking where the missing players are and when they'll be added.

Wed Sep 21, 2005 11:50 pm

don't downgrade Sean Marks' rating Andrew  he's individual and overall ratings seem fair (60 overall :P )

 WTF???

No im not saying you should do that, I just though, since im retarded, thats what you might do. :)
But clearly any sane person wouldnt.

I made a long list of suggestions on player ratings that I thought needed to be edited in the last two years, and both times you (i.e. Andrew) seemingly agreed with me on quite a lot of my suggestions as you applied a lot of them.

Of course I will have to wait until I get my hands on the game because I actually need to play the game (a lot) before making up my mind on the ratings, but I'm planning on compiling a list again this year - if this okay for you, Andrew?

Fri Sep 23, 2005 3:48 pm

I can't promise I'm implement all suggested changes but I always take them into consideration. I usually only dismiss them quickly if I strongly disagree with them or they're clearly the result of biased fandom ("OMG plz make (insert player here) 99 overall he is the best eva!"), though that doesn't happen very often. ;)

Fri Sep 23, 2005 6:22 pm

Look I only said it once, and the day you prove to me that Dan Dickau isn't worth a 99 overall I'll shut up about it.

Fri Sep 23, 2005 6:37 pm

I suppose I can relent, what with Dickau being the new Darrick Martin. :P

Sat Sep 24, 2005 12:53 pm

I'd like to play the game more before suggesting wide ranging ratings changes....individual ratings can be tweaked definitely....people just look at overall ratings and make their decisions based on that....for Marks, he might be a 60 overall, but if you look at his individual ratings, they look pretty much spot-on....

I'm guessing that this is gonna be a Live edition where a player rated 65 will be more effective than some than are rated 80 (like Josh Smith)....

Ok. So some Boston news and changes, even though I don't know their in-game stats it might be of some help.

- Tony Allen: Supposedly DA wants him to play the point this year. Yes, it's crazy considering the glut of pointguards but DA thinks he can pull it off. So, Pg as a secondary position?

Also TA's handles is usually underestimated, he handles the ball very well and his jumpshot has improved during the summer.

(Seriously, that would make it 6 pointguards under 28 and minutes to be shared each game between Dickau/West/Banks/Allen. Crazy.)

- Gerald Green: Bad news for those of us who wanted him to see limited minutes this year. DA thinks he's been choached badly and finds him limited offensivly and very raw defensivly. As I said in some earlier post, his def.awareness and off.awareness is low while he has a nice jumpshot with range and is an athletic freak. Also he should probably be a SG/SG and not a SG/SF.

- Al Jefferson: Big, bigger, AlJeff. Added a lot of muscle during the summer, and even though he seemed lost in the SL - report indicate that he has a game on par for 30 mins a night. So his stamina atleast should reflect that.

- Ryan Gomes: Some people (DA) have indicated that PP might play SG this year. With Davies off the bench (might explain TA's move to PG). The reason is supposedly that Doc wants to play with a "power 3", which is either Scalabrine (PF/SF), Reed (SF/SF) or Gomes (SF/PF). Don't underestimate Gomes, he could be in the starting 5 opening night. Both DA and Doc likes the guy, and he has solid skills. Good shooting, good rebounding, good post-play, and pretty fast on his feet.

- Delonte West: Has been working the pick-and-roll all summer long, and has supposedly really upped his offensive Bball-IQ.

- Paul Pierce: Hard to say now if he'll play as a SG/SF or a SF/SG. But worth keeping in mind.

Might add more later on.

Thanks Habakkuk, noted. (Y)

You might disagree, but I think (and not just Im a cavs fan) that Damon Jones should be a shooter, I mean he did get like top 3 in 3pts made and %, i think.

Mon Sep 26, 2005 12:14 am

He was 3rd in 3pts made and 5th in 3 point percentage
And for the record he was 1st in 3 pointers per 48 mins

I suppose he could qualify, but his FG percentage isnt as good thats all

Mon Sep 26, 2005 4:02 pm

This is kinda off the topic, but its still a lil on the topic...
Does anyone know how to make a player a certain superstar? Coz I have tried and tried with the ratings and its not workin....

Mon Sep 26, 2005 4:45 pm

Maybe using dbf editing?

Wed Sep 28, 2005 12:15 pm

the roster on the game is absolutly a joke. it's the roster from like 3 month ago..... i don't think they updated the roster since the draft. Well i'm looking forwared to your roster update Andre, as always. Thanks!!

Wed Sep 28, 2005 1:26 pm

Being a PS2 user I can only hope there is some way to update these rosters. I want Finleys cap space, Josh Powell & Rawle Marshal!

Wed Sep 28, 2005 5:50 pm

hi.

i noticed that okur and harpring were given rather low FG and 3PT ratings compared to other players that played badly last season. an example of this is posey. both harpring and posey have 60-something FG ratings yet posey shot badly (30+%) last season while harpring shot something like 49%.

also, is chris duhon really that slow? he has a speed rating of 58 and that is worse that some of the game's big men.

thanks

Hey Andrew, have you decided whether your global rating editing will be centered around freestyle superstar abilities, or whether you'll give players what they truly deserve? I think that is very important to think about.

My personal opinion is that if you evolve the roster ratings around the superstar abilities, it would be best, as it seems to be an integral part of the gameplay.

For example, if you where to give players what they truly deserve, Artest wouldn't be an outside stopper, because his quickness would be at something like 70 instead of the required 85. So I would definetly aim for molding the players superstar abilities as first preference.

- Random discovery: Player ratings seem to be globally higher than last year.

Thu Sep 29, 2005 7:07 pm

yep, the player ratings are globally higher....I entered in a couple of the rookies that Andrew had created and rated in Live '05 into Live '06 and many were rated about 5-10 overall points higher, sometimes even more....
