Fight Club was too confusing for me.

Do you mind posting with capitals too? It bugs me, and probably others too.

Fight Club was too confusing for me.

 One of the best movies of all time. Anyone else see the dick at the end?

I don't have anything against older movies, but when you tread passed 1990, then it's too old. (Unless it's a gangster movie, nothing black & white either.)

I have Fight Club too. Have to buy Shawshank.

Speaking of movie soundtracks, you might as well check out Hans Zimmer. That guy is a fucking genius. Some of his movies he's provided music for:

Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, The Rock & The Last Samurai, Batman Begins, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, The Da Vinci Code, The Weather Man, King Arthur, Lion King, Pearl Harbour, Mission Impossible II & The Thin Red Line.

Really, Gladiator & The Rock are two of the best musical albums I've heard to date. (Y)

Yeah, well, I saw it on New Year's, at 2 AM, and there was no sound, so it was confusing.

My favorite movie of all time.

garden state

I really, really liked that movie.

A kick-ass movie. I don't think any movie could provide as much debate as Memento. I think I figured out the movie, so after you watch it, let me know what your thoughts are then we can discuss it :)

Fight Club

Another awesome movie. I bought the book recently by Chuck Palahntuk, so I'm looking forward to reading that one.

if you thought memento didnt make sense mulholland drive will make your head explode.

memento made complete sense to me, but its been awhile since i've watched it so i'd rather not discuss it.

yeah, zimmer is a great composer, but sometimes i prefer compliation soundtracks, oh another good compilation was magnolia. speaking of compositions though, elfman for edward scissorhands was nice as well.

well, yeah, by 'older' i meant before the 90s. theres the obvious like kubrick, if you've watched 'full metal jacket' and 'apocalypse now', jarhead is almost a complete rip off of both.... excpet nothing actually happens in jarhead. i did like the cinematography though. then theres the obvious classics like 'seven samurai', and the chaplin movies, etc.. i do think you'd enjoy the kubrick movies (im pretty sure you've watched them already, but if not, do), because they really feel way ahead of their time, maybe ahead of our time. the only knock on kubrick is that a lot of his movies revolve around a very similar theme, i know the same can be said of almost anyone, but more so and more apparent with him; you know kubrick when you watch it.

as for the directors nowadays, i am not really a fan of spielpergh (is that how you spell it?), aside from private ryan and schindlers list. i liked the lord of the rings movies, but i didnt like them that much to think they deserved all those awards, i dont like peter jackson in general because his movies are too long winded for me; i dont mind long movies, i do mind long movies that feel damn long. i dont like oliver stone too much, especially after alexander. howard is okay, but geisha was a bad decision. but, other than that, theres actually a lot of quality movies being made nowadays, the line between hollywood and independent is growing thinner.

the book is by far better then the movie IMO

I don't want to ruin it for you, i'll just say a lot of the things are different in the novel, for the better

damn hollywood! nothing wrong with liking Garden State. I enjoyed it myself

Jackal and the like- you're really missing out if you think movies before the 90's are "too old". A lot of the movies coming out are just remakes from the 70's and 80's and more importantly heavily influenced by them. And you could say the same about those movies being influenced by the 50's and 60's. and so forth...

anywho- the movies I've seen within the year that have really stuck out for me are:

the Jacket, the Machinist, the Woodsmen. The first 2 because they were so many layers and interpretations for each movie. So many visual metaphors and geinus in both scripts

The Woodsmen, I don't know what it is about that movie- but for some reason it got me cheering for a child molestor

I know there are a lot of old movies that are being remade and I've noticed I really dig the remakes, people in turn do tell me that the originals pwned the remakes.

None the less, I'm a bit of a prissy little bitch so I'll stick to what I said before.

I'm yet to watch the Machinist.

Added another movie to add to my list of movies yet to buy - The Breakfast Club.

The song from that movie is so awesome, Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds. (Y)

I just watched Memento for the first time (shutup), can't say it was confusing. Well, perhaps if you're not paying attention you could get mixed up since a lot of scenes overlap each other.

What I do want to say is I pity that guy's life, I really feel bad for him.

Some of the movies I watched in this past weeks and I highly recommend: Jarhead (Riot will hate/hates this movie), Boogie Nights (PTA is god), Rosemary's Baby (Mia Farrow . Has anyone seen John and Mary?), Good Night and Good Luck (George Clooney can direct and it isn't that artistic crap he made the last time ) , The Machinist (Christian Bale is teh best thing it could happen to Hollywood).

I'm a big fan of Mulholland Drive.. I actually think that was one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. Let me ask you this, was there actually something about it that was supposed to make sense? As far as I'm concerned, it was *spoiler* only a dream where it was a fantasy world that she wakes up into reality which drives her to madness. I hope.

I really enjoyed Full Metal Jacket, it was definitely unique, but I didn't like Apocalypse Now except for Brando's brilliant acting.

gordon - I saw the Woodsman, and I definitely had sympathy for the guy. Makes me realize that there's always good even among the most evil.

As for Sin City, I finally watched it today for the first time (the Recut version), and I gotta say I really enjoyed it (especially the aesthetics of the lighting). The plot was straightforward, but I don't get the part with Josh Harnett (maybe it's just the recut version and I'm missing a whole other scene...) I enjoyed it more than Batman Begins that's for sure.

Now THAT is one fucked up movie.

Did you know fact #24: The movie 'Saw', was created by 2 students from Melbourne, Australia, who's idea caught the eye of Hollywood film makers. As you can imainge, those 2 Australian students are now rolling in cash! What a story.

The Rock soundtrack is one of the best movie soundtracks next to Lord of the Rings. They often use the theme from the Rock when hyping up MLB and NFL games in the pregame video montages.

I would have to disagree about movies made before 1990. Some movies I enjoy were made before 1990 , ie The Godfather / Amadeus / Caddyshack / Kenneth Branaugh version of Henry V etc.

One of my favorite movies growing up was the Arnold Schwarnagger hit Commando. I remember as a kid watching that movie on FOX (edited of course) repeatedly. I like action movies and comedy : especially the Lethal Weapon series which combined action and comedy. 8-)
