How Do I remove a player's headband?

Postby MaddenFreak on Sat Nov 16, 2002 3:03 pm

I thought you could do this! Amare Stoudamire is wearing a headband in NBA Live and he doesn't wear one in real life. I tried to remove it but it won't let me change anything that has to do with the head. It greys out that button and only lets you change wrist bands, etc. I have the PC version.

You can try to remove the headband by editing the players.dbf file...find the "headwear" column and change the 1 to a 0 (zero) for Amare Stoudemire.

Can you change player's shooting hand the same way...by editing it in the .dbf file...if yes - how exactly, because some players shoot with wrong hand?

Yes, all you need to do is look for the field HAND in the dbf. 0=Right Handed, 1=Left Handed.

Could someone please explain how I can change this .dbf file. You can't even open this file so how could you change anything in it. How do you do this? I need the step by step. Pretend I'm an infant. (Which isn't far off)

What are you guys talking about? You can change it in the game, go to "Edit play", and "gear", there will be a upperbody, and lowerbody, change it from there, you also can change the color of the bands, so cool!

That would be incorrect. There is "Upper Body" and "Lower Body," but there is also "Head," and "Head" is greyed out and you can't go in and edit anything about their head on the PC version. Let me know if anybody has figured it out yet.

Like I mentioned above, I'm still wondering how I can go in and change that player.dbf file you guys referenced above. Please let me know if anyone knows that either. Thanks!

you can't do that in the console versions either--you'd have to change his headshape--it would have to be patched.

First of all, did you get how to remove or add the hand bands? That "head" option is only for those created players, not the official players(like Kobe, AI, MJ, Curry).

Yes, changing the hand bands etc. is simple but as you just said I can't change Amare Stoudamire's head band because I didn't create him, and it won't let you mess with the "Head" section unless I created him...which I didn't.

Is it really possible to change in the player.dbf folder like DANET said. Please let me know how to do it if it's possible. Thanks!

You can edit the players.dbf file with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, or a DBF editor such as DB Commander or DBFTools etc. Personally, I prefer to use DBFTools (since it is Freeware) but they all work.

There are a few versions of the players.dbf file found within various subfolders in your "C:\My Documents\NBA Live 2003\" folder. DBF files for saved seasons can be found in the "C:\My Documents\NBA Live 2003\saves" folder for example. If you want to totally remove Amare's headband (or change someone's shooting hand etc.) you will have to edit all the players.dbf files (or else the headband may appear if you play an exhibition game but not appear when playing a season etc). If you just want to remove the headband for a season you are playing you only have to edit the players.dbf file for your season.

I have Microsoft Excel but I have to tell you that I haven't been able to figure out what I'm supposed to do to edit the players.dbf file. I must be trying the wrong things. What am I suppose to be doing once I go into Excel DANet?

Open the players.dbf database file and find the row in the DBF for "Amare Stoudemire"...then scroll over to the column which says "headwear"...then change the 1 to a zero. Save the DBF and you're done. Repeat for each players.dbf file in your "C:\My Documents\NBA Live 2003" folder.

Yes you can. You simply change the value for "eyewear" in the players.dbf for the player you want to edit from a zero to a 1, 2, 3 etc. for different types of goggles. The only goggles assigned to players in the default rosters for NBA Live 2003 are goggle type 1, goggle type 22, and goggle type 28. Based on this I assume there are at least 28 different types of goggles in the game.

From memory there's nearly 50 goggle types (including blindfold), though most are just colour variations of a couple of versions...

Anyone have any idea why some players headbands are slightly fragmented when added via players.dbf? :?:
