Please fix the 98/ME framerate problem

Postby Clutch Uranus on Sat Nov 16, 2002 12:33 pm

EA, please listen to all the complaints about the 1 fps chop problem experienced by many Windows 98/ME users. It's real. It exists. It SHOULD be adressed.

My specs for BOTH machines:

SYSTEM 1
P2 800 mhz
GeForce 2 GTS Pro 40.72 certified
SBLive
512 ram
Win ME
= Choppy and UNPLAYABLE 1 fps or less no matter what in-game settings

SYSTEM 2
P3 1000 mhz
GeForce 4 4400 40.72 certified
SBLive
512 ram
Win XP
= Plays pretty good, Looks fantastic 20-25 fps high settings

Here is the fix

Decrease the sound card acceleration from to none, basic or standard.

Win 98 is casuing the problem but this will get you excellent framerate until a patch is released. You wont notice a performance hit in sounds.

Thanks MotownGIANTS, this is the first thing we tried and it did not work  We have had experience with "the slider" for other games so we thought it might help in NBA Live but in this case it didn't help.

I feel sorry for developers that have to get thier software up and running while dealing with compatabilty issues and crappy drivers....
Between direct x, Creative, and Nvidia, there seems to be major problems! Other problems could be blamed on VIA, controller drivers,
overclocking problems, etc. etc. We could go on and on! There needs to be better standards for PC's....

Hopefully EA will pull through and get this working quickly. It seems to affect most everyone with ME/98. I can't believe this got through beta....?

If you're using a USB mouse, heres something else you could try, its a real pain to do every time, but it seems to clear up the problem for me, using a MS Intellimouse Optical USB.

Before you start the game go into device manager and disable the USB mouse. Use the keyboard to start the game and then ALT-TAB back to the desktop. Press Windows key and Pause/Break to go into the device manager and renable the mouse. Go back to game and the chop has gone. This works on my system hope it works on yours.

If you're still having the 2fps bug after that, disable any other USB devices if you have them.
