directx 9 beta

if anyone is interested the beta version of directx 9 is available. some people have said they've noticed some improvements.

have you tried it with Live 2003 yet? Give us some opinions on it, I prolly won't download it till it becomes an official release.

BTW--what are the enhancements compared to directx8?

i haven't been able to download it yet actually, and i haven't even picked up live 2003 yet. i read a post on another forum that the public version was released and i tried to get the news here as soon as i could in case anyone wanted to try it to see if it makes a difference in live , but when i went back to dl it i couldn't get it. there are some who have been able to get it after i tried though. someone commented that there is a heavy volume of traffic trying to dl it and it took them several tries. i read a couple of comments from people who were testing it before the release and they have claimed that there have been improvements in performance and that games look much better overall. i don't remember offhand the site where i read the comments but if i find it again i will try to post some of them or the link. in case anyone does decide to try the beta version be careful because the public version expires in march 2003 and the final release has to be installed before then otherwise you would have to reinstall windows, but there are other links on the web which are for the beta 3 test version and that one expires in january, so there is the possibility of that one expiring before the final version is released.
