How do you(step by step)install patches into the game

I have nba live 2003 on computer,running off of windows xp and i have downloaded several patches such as shoes jerseys and rosters.How do i implement it one of these features into the game.I tried to go to the tutorial but it is currently not available.The reason i want to know how to do this is because live 2005 is comming soon and im contemplating whether i will purchase it on xbox/ps2 or the computer.If adding patches etc.. are as easy as everyone says i will get the pc version.
