What the hell is this? Teams.dbf Tewaking

Has anyone looked at the teams DBF files? I just did and there are some new weird fields starting with OPFAKE and ending with DPLMNBK. The fields almost loog like global modifiers of effectiveness of certain things.

WE NEED PEOPLE TO START TESTING THESE THINGS

I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet, anyway I'll try to see the effects tonight alittle and really tomorrow.

Anyone with opinions please chime in.

Well I played a quarter with some changes (I know not enough time) and I think I can see the differences in some aspects of the gameplay and I can conclude this much so far:

1 All of those fields take up to 5 digits
2 To really see the effect of a field you have to set it at a pole 0 or 99999
3 Some fields may have opposite effect ie. As you lower ability # players get better ability in game

Having said that I think there are a couple of fields related to shooting and I saw some effects with changes but it's too soon to tell if I'm imagining it or if its real or if its a freak occurance.

We need more people testing this stuff so we can get some varied data and there are 18 fields which means a lot of testing.

What do you guys think? This stuff could make all that tweaking stuff easier since all we would need was a universal edited Teams.dbf file.

Just my wild guess...........

If we set the "DPSTEAL" to maximum, then the CPU-controlled player will attempt to steal the ball everytime. If we set it to zero, he wont try to steal the ball at all

Well I'm back with results (I think)

*** Disclaimer all my results could me my mind playing games on me so I guarantee nothing

Well lets get down to it

These are the changes I think i made


    Lowered chances of shots going in
    Reduced Steals
    Slowed Turbo on Offense and Defense but made Defenders faster
    Reduced Jumping as much as possible
    Made the Zone more effective
    Made defenders Face Up better


Here is how I see proof of each thing.

Shooting- I saw players (CPU) miss shots that they never missed especially those open step back screens and short turarounds but they will still hit when open real close to basket a good percentage..

Steals- Well you see less of them but stupid passes still get picked

Turbo- Well I lowered it and it seems abit better and I gave defenders a boost to compensate for freestyle.

Jumping- Players seem to jump lower and swat less shots but still seem to effect it.

Zone- Don't play it much but I know when I did it got lit up before, this should help.

Face Up- Players now seem to stay better with the offensive player when driving.

Thats all for now and I will be mailing out the file sice its only 5K

Here are installation instructions

1 Load game and load roster you want to use this with, a tweaked down roster will probably provide bad gameplay since I based this on the default rosters because of franchise issues.

2 Save loaded roster and remember the slor (ex 008)

3 Open Zip and go to My Documents\NBA Live 2003\saves\008

4 Extract Teams.dbf in 008 folder

5 Load game and load roster (ex 008)

6 Play Game ! :)

Doesn't really matter

I play 8 min with all rules maxed fouls arcade

BTW I will probably be making a new one tomorrow since some things may be inversed in this one but it's just beginning.

I just played one quarter on Arcade, 8 Mins, All-Star.

New Jersey @ Lakers, I was New Jersey...

Both teams shot 55%...Derek Fisher took the first three shots for LA, all 3's, all swish. They were moving super-sonic. 12 Total Steals in the first. 8 Total Blocks. I had 12 Turnovers, lol.

So, basically I didn't notice anything. Maybe they need to be tweaked the other way or something. Thanks for the work though, you might be onto something, anything is possible.

hey bud...all those categories in teams.dbf are what u think they are....o - offensive player, d - defensive player, opd - offenisve player direct shoot etc....i don't think they actually change the gameplay however :(

greenmig is unfoutunately right.

Even when you put the shooting fields to -9999 nothing changes. Why couldn't EA just put in gameplay sliders.

The only problem with the game is the inside game and how easy it is especially when the CPU posts up cause if you don't block it it will go in.
