anyone plays nba in multiplayer?

Postby wlashack on Tue Nov 26, 2002 5:18 am

i tried to play several matches and what i discovered so far is the best strategy to get the ball and dribble right forward and there put the ball immedeately into the opponents basket. neither my opponents neither me are able to defend a human player that makes tricky moves and runs to score. so the game seem like some kind of "run and score" game with no need to make tactics etc. the only effecct if i try passing the ball between players is sometimes i lose it so the best way is to pass only once and run to score. am i wrong? anyone is able to defend attacking players really effectïvely?
playing against computer is different because it tries tactical play but when playing against human player that decides to run and shoot only i have no chance to stop him. is it the "feature" of an NBA 2003 or is there any possibility to defend really effectively?

I played a lot of matches against people on the net... I had a lot of lag but defending isn't so problematic. do a full court man to man defense and your ok...
just remember to almost always switch to your big man in the paint to be able to be on the defensive side...
dont ever play with the man that guards your opponent that has the ball... because the pc guards better then anyone, at least untill it comes for blocking.

I agree with D1X's tactics. I find that the freestyle control, while being really cool-looking, does cripple ones ability to play defense. To me, it does seem like a run and gun game in multiplayer mode.
So far, I have switched to the big man and used the 'face up' button to confront freestyle-control-using-offensive-onslaughts.

OK guys it's a good tactic you choose.

My defensive tactic is to play defense with the PG. This guy is often quick, skilled with stealing abilities and is the least direct threat for the basket.

So you can often run and double with the PG when the ballplayer is next to you. You get a lot of steals especially when the opponent passes down to the post. With double team you often achieves, that the opponent doesnt get into the paint.

if your matchup is beating you with a penetration, you have always the big guys you can switch to to nail him under the rim. it works PERFECT for 2k1 and for 2k3 it seems to work for me to.

Another option is always play with the guy defense, whos matchup is at least threaten, so you can double team often and force the CPU to make the decisive moves over their weakest man.

This has worked for me since the days of Lakers vs. Celtics on the Genesis, and it still works today with Live:

First, set up your def. matchups (use your best defender on the other guy's top scorer, high pressure on good players, low or med on the non offensive guys you know he won't use, NEVER auto dbl team)

Set up your plays to call either Full court press, half court trap, or man to man.

Always have box out on and crash boards either auto or off if you're getting beat by fast breaks

ALWAYS use the defensive player closest to the basket to block shots and get the boards or to take the charge i never guard the ball until it goes to the post or if the guy dribbles in for a layup. You'll get beat 8 outta 10 times if you do.

I use half court trap and man to man most of the time...maybe full court press a couple times...but you'll get beat by the long outlet by a good player

DON'T reach! :D Just use your def slide stance and stay between the man and the bucket.

I usually hold the cpu and human opponents in the 30-40 % range. So, this has worked for me...give it a try
