Video Card Opinion

Sun Nov 24, 2002 4:49 am

I installed Live 2003 on my PC and got the dreaded black screen. My vid card is an old Voodoo3 and I've got to get a new one. Any suggestions? Limit is probably $80 or so. I don't have a great computer so I wouldn't need an expensive one.

If you want to play Live and have lots of fun u need to get at least the Geforce 4 MX 440 by my opinion.

My spec. are:

ATHLON XP 1600+
512 PC 133 SDRAM
GEFORCE 4 MX 440 overcl. to: core clock 340 and memory to 403 ( without any additional cooler and works fine. No freezes for me for 5 - 6 playing hours without stop.)
WIN 98 SE

i can run the NBA live 2003 on everything set to max except reflections.
FPS is playable for me and have no need to reduce graphics.

if your price range is only $80, then yeah.. get somethin from the g4 mx series

How great is not great? You may be better off saving for a new rig. If you have a good monitor already $500 can get you something workable for a couple years.

Anyway, to answer your question:

I'd suggest a Radeon 9000 or Geforce Ti200 (or 500 if you can afford it).

DON'T get a Geforce4 MX. Don't let the "4" in Geforce4MX fool you, though - they're just souped up Geforce 2s. Geforce3s have almost equal power and have more Support for DirectX 8 features.

Radeon 9000 is a good choice IMHO

that's what i'm using right now and it seems to be alright on my xp 1800..not excellent..but decent for the price
