HELP!! Does anyone else have this problem?

Mon Nov 18, 2002 1:43 pm

The game will run fine on my computer, but after a while (could be a few seconds, minutes, or games), my entire computer will freeze up, and there's always this awful screetch sound from my soundcard that doesn't stop until I restart my computer! It only happens when I'm actually playing the game. Sometimes, the game will spontaneously abort back to windows, or my computer will restart spontaneously as well (less often)

I tried everything I could think of: changing video cards, updating video drivers, changing sound drivers, adjusting directx sound/video, reinstalling XP, reinstalling Live....

If anyone has a similar problem or has an idea of what's going on, please let me know! Thank you!

Athlon XP 1700+
ALi M1647 motherboard
512MB DDR
Windows XP
Geforce4 Ti4200 (but also tried using Geforce2MX...no luck)
Detonator drivers (tried 40.72, 30.82, and even 23.11 for my GF2MX)
Sound Blaster Live! Value (tried drivers from both Creative and XP)

i also experience the same problem, just run dxdiag and move sound glider to no acceleration or basic acceleration instead of full acceleration and the game will work fine(trust me)

Thanks for your help. I actually did try lowering the sound acceleration, but I was still having problems. But, after checking tech support at Creative's website, it turns out I had one of those rare anomolies: the freeze-up/squeeling sound was due to my particular soundcard/Ali chipset/video card combination! The solution was to lower my AGP aperature size in my BIOS settings. After doing so, the game seems to be okay....

What a POS, that's all I have to say! Wasted so much of my time, only to find out some unlogical sh** was screwing up my game!
