I don't know about anyone else's copy,and forgive me if I'm wrong,
BUT is'nt his name Yao Ming ?????????
In MY game (default) his name is Ming Yao #%&*@^????????
What's up with that ???????????
His last name is even "Yao" on his jersey,AND the arena announcer says
(last name) "Yao" too ??????????
Am I wrong?,but is'nt his FIRST NAME "Yao",LAST NAME "Ming" ????

:?:

(I looked at NBA.com,and it says LAST NAME "Ming" too)

Actually, it is Ming Yao. People just call him what Chinese people would have called him, with last name coming before given name.

juntari is right his name is correct in the game. Yao Ming is how it is read, many Asian countries' names are in this format (backward to us English folk). Ichiro Suzuki is another example, Ichiro is on the back of his jersey...

That's right, in most asian countries, last names are read before first names... so on the back of Yao Ming's jersey should read Yao, since that is his last name. What I don't get is why Ichiro's jersey says Ichiro, Suzuki is his last name....

If it's read backwards wouldn't it be Gnim Oay? :D

D'oh! Before everyone starts telling me that his jersey says YAO on it, Cocobee already pointed it out on another thread. I remembered reading that his jersey would have the full Yao Ming on the back, but I guess they decided to change it... oh well.

in chinese yao is his surname and ming is his first name, but as most of u know, most asian countries say last name first. like wang zhi zhi, zhi zhi is his first name.

You're right there. He decided while playing in Japan to be special and be known on a first name basis (his father told him to or something - I read in an article), kinda like "Oprah." Anyway, for about 3 or 4 years before he came to the US his jersey read "Ichiro," and he kept it when he got here.

In China ,"Yao Ming" is how his name is written and read."Yao" is his family name, and "Ming " is his given name. It's read just from the left to the right, not backwards.Chinese do not mention words like "firse name" and "last name" at all.
My English is so poor,so I can't express my opinion well.
