NBA 2K3 (Xbox) with NBA Live?

Postby MasterChiefIn on Thu Nov 14, 2002 6:58 am

Don't get me wrong, I've been a Live fan for 7 years, but once I got NBA 2K3 for the Xbox, NBA Live just wasn't good enough anymore. I got NBA Live 2003 for PC yesterday, and its almost complete s--t (especially with that controller button flaw, how could they be so stupid??) If any of you guys try NBA 2K3 for Xbox with a widescreen HDTV and dolby digital sound, I guarantee your opinion of NBA Live will go down considerably.

I bought nba 2K3 & have an HD TV & I gave the game away to a kid. I thought that 2K3 was a step back from 2K2 other than shot percentages. The actual player rendering sucked, players floated and stopped with every ball catch; shooting & blocking shots animation was unimaginative, the replays were intrusive and slow. I bought it because I read all the high praise from you sim guys, but I found its gameplay retarded. Oh and the sound was like playing alone in a gym. It just sucked.

Live 03 has more fluid play & if you spend some time tuning it to play it is responsive to change. I've worked my rosters to a point where its pretty close, or nearly as close to the stats I was getting from 2K3--and its fun to play. You quit too soon IMHO.

blackdawg - I can honestly say I experience none of the things that you did with nba 2k3. Just curious though, what platform did you play it on?

THANK YOU! NBA LIVE "FOREVA"

fvdmc - I don't understand why you're so happy that one person didn't like 2k3 as much as live. No one's asking you to change your opinion here, if you like Live better, more power to you. It's a great game, I play it also. What I'm saying is, when it comes to what game you want to play, your opinion is the only one that should count.

i just love this...last time i checked sega aint making a PC version of 2k3... so,why should i care if 2k3 plays a better game of B-ball...i bought 2k3 & 2k2 & loved them both, but returned 2k3 cause it was slow & plodding & took a full 48 min game to get real stats...now i know LIVE isnt a pure sim,but i can play a 32 min game & get more joy & excitement in one game as i can get in a whole 82 game season of 2k3...this is the same argument as NFL2k3 vs. MADDEN 03...so please go to the 2k3 site & write what a great game it is over there...im lookin for tips to make my NBA LIVE game better ...late

I was playing on a PSX2, so maybe its better with your X-box. It was playable, and if it were last year with Live2002 I'd have played it. But, I must admit, I am a fan of this version of Live2003. I wasn't happy at first, but as I played with ratings I found that with Live you can really impact the play on the court. This is rare in my experience. I like the fluid movement of the freestyle control; and the game became better and better the more I tinkered with the ratings.

I plan to buy the PC version by this weekend, and I will definitely construct a roster with the suggestions in my posting on this board "Suggestions for Tuning Up 2003." I will try to offer it through e-mail. Maybe its just my preference, but I really enjoy the way the game plays now, and its without the frustrations common to putting up with a flawed game.

There are a couple of things I'd like added. I really liked the multiple camera a few versions back; I wish that the design offered more playable cameras, but thats a personal preference.

I hope that 2k3 brings you enjoyment, for me, it was a game that I didn't want to spend time on when there was (for me) a superior game available. But if people don't want to spend anytime modifying the game, and I can understand that, you'll be playing an arcadish game which doesn't really meet the gameplay preference of most hardcore Live freaks. So if you don't either wait for a patch, or make some tuning adjustment, I don't think you will see the real potential of the game.

To Don Bicente:

You're telling us that you don't like NBA 2k3 because you have to play 48 minutes to get real stats ???. I mean, isn't it how it is supposed to be a perfect game ???
You're telling us that playing 32 minutes games and getting 100 points is better ???.
Then you should try NBA Jam, real basketball is obviously not for you.
I personally don't like NBA live 2003, I've been unable to finish a game because it sucks, I've played a lot of Live 2000 and 2001, and after 2 years waiting we get this crap of "simulation".

Madden 2003 is not a good comparison, I'm playing it on 60 minutes, with time accelerated (that's the most realistic way of playing, no team snaps the ball with 25 seconds remaining) and I'm getting quite realistic games.

On a side note, getting an accurate fg % doesn't mean the game is more realistic, I dropped the fg 40 % and I was getting 35-50 % in shooting, and I was getting realistic scores (20-30 points per 12 minutes quarter), but getting a basket from outside the paint was almost impossible.
