But the situation with Jefferson was that the ball was no longer directly over the rim but next to it and with no chance of going in. Can't tell if this is true or not because of the camera angles on the telly.

But I would say it wasn't in the cylinder extending the from the hoop directly up. Don't know for sure...

Perhaps the referee who made the call didn't have a good angle himself, and felt it was above the rim.

Well refs are only human... Even though a mistake can cost them their life (Mainly Soccer Referees) and the scorn of the community;)
