I’m excited (and a little nervous) to finally share and publicly launch a passion project website I’ve been building: http://www.AllTimeFranchise.com
The idea came from years of debating all time NBA rosters with friends. Who actually deserves a spot? Who gets left off? How deep should the bench be? Does player X belong on this all-time team OR that all-time team. Since there are no true consensus answers to these questions I wanted to build something interactive that lets people explore those questions instead of just arguing or dismissing everyone's favorites. The goal isn’t to say “this is the correct roster construction” It’s to spark discussion, debate, and deeper appreciation for NBA franchise history and roster depth. Most of all to have fun with it.
I’ve spent countless hours researching NBA franchise histories, eras, accolades, and context to come to the best conclusions I could about which players were included and where they fit. The players that you'll see span from the 1940s through the present day, and while I did my best to be thorough and fair, this is very much a collaborative project at heart. I’d love help from the community in continuing to refine and improve it.
From a modding standpoint, especially for those who build legends rosters, I thought this could serve as a helpful resource to consult as well.
What the site does:
- ●Displays all time rosters for different franchises using 3 sections (Starting Lineup, Bench Slots, and Honorable Mentions)
●From a philosophical standpoint, I couldn’t decide whether players should be limited to one franchise team or be allowed to appear on multiple relevant teams they may have made a significant impact on. There are strong arguments on both sides, therefore, rather than force one viewpoint, I built in a toggle button that lets you switch back and forth between the two, depending on how you want to think about franchise history. "Duplicates Allowed": a player can appear on every franchise they played for (for example, LeBron James appearing on the Cavs, Heat, and Lakers) vs "One Player Per Team": once a player is assigned to one franchise, they’re removed from all others, forcing tougher decisions.
●Allows full drag and drop customization, so you can move players between starters, bench, and honorable mentions Think this player should be a starter? Move him there. Think one of the honorable mentions belongs on the fuill team? Put him there. The options are limitless and the interface lets you move players with ease (and keep them there unless you click the "Reset Roster" button which puts the page back to default). The changes you decide to make even shows up on the main home page.
●Don’t see a player you wish was on the team? At the bottom of each team page there’s a custom player add feature for niche or overlooked players that you can drag and drop where you see fit.
●Includes a bench size dropdown that lets you shrink or expand the roster. You can limit teams to 12 total players, keep a traditional 15, or add an extra spot if you feel one more player belongs and you don't have the gut to cut another.
●Once you’ve customized a roster, you can use the share button to instantly share your full roster breakdown, and if you want to start fresh, you can reset the page back to its default roster with a single click.
What I’d love feedback on:
- ●Players you think are missing or could be added as options.
●Players you feel might be misplaced, whether that’s someone who should be moved between Starters, Bench, or Honorable Mentions by default, or a player you feel has been assigned to the wrong franchise. This was especially tricky when using the No Duplicates option. For example, I spent way too long debating whether Jeff Hornacek should live on the Suns or Jazz side in that mode!
●Do you find the ability to adjust the bench size meaningful?
●How does the drag and drop experience feel?
●How useful the unique vs duplicate toggle button is?
●Any functionality that feels confusing or clunky.
●Features you’d expect from a historical reference like this but don’t see yet!
This is very much a living project, and early feedback will directly shape what comes next!
Here’s the site:
Thanks for checking it out, and I genuinely appreciate any thoughts, critiques, or suggestions you’re willing to share.
P.S. This site was designed primarily for desktop or laptop viewing. It does work on mobile/phone, but the full experience and customization tools look and work best on a larger screen.
P.S.S Mods if there is a different part of the forum you feel would get more traffic or thoughtful responses feel free to move!
