On Ball Defense

Fri Sep 12, 2025 7:32 pm

I play mynba aka offline modes so everything I say relates to that aspect of the game.

Offensively this game plays quite nicely. Players feel responsive and stars can take over games

But if you like trying to play on-ball defense I'm often getting left behind the play with the cpu just sprinting to the left/right.

Full disclosure I haven't been good with on-ball defense since 2k19 before they completely removed the invisible wall but I got hang of it in 2k25 but this year boy..
On top of that you have to plan for the drive and kick where your cpu team mate gets sucked into a screen with no chance of contesting the shot.

This may be a skill gap but does anyone experience this and/or have some sliders that assist with staying in front of ball handlers. Something casual would be fine I'd just like to be able to mirror the ball handler similar to how the cpu mirrors us, in that you have to perform passes or dribble moves to lose the defender not just run by them

Personally my biggest issue is switching off when the cpu switching to a small lineup and puts the pg to sg then I pick up the wrong guy so thats my error but the problem i have with on ball defending is that if the cpu decides that its going to drive then your at best result putting them at the line trying to stay with them but there getting a to the line at the very least.

Yeah that's another issue. Really defense as a whole is mad difficult and your reactions aren't always gonna be on point as if you're actually there on the court so we gotta rely on 2k's defensive animations and possible input lag.

Hopefully they tone it down in a patch. Especially as drive and kick is a bit wild at the moment

Another issue i sometimes have is guards coming down the lane and bouncing me off the play like iam small point guard trying to guard Shaq.

Both players are reasonably matched in terms of height and weight but I know this sometimes can happen in real life but the player in question isnt known for been a strong beast that bodies his defender off the play lol

lol.

Yeah you definitely have to bump the strength slider up on the user side a little. CPU definitely has some hidden advantages in the engine that we can't see

Also helps with blow-bys
