Chris Smoove on Badge Regression in MyCAREER

An excellent summary of the issues people are already noticing with the new approach to Badges, in which they'll regress. I haven't dived into MyCAREER yet, but this was a concern pre-release, and it seems those concerns were well-founded. The Floor Setters being part of the Season Passes should've been a giveaway that it was another subtle (or not-so-subtle) way of pushing the userbase towards more microtransactions.

Great to see a veteran content creator speaking out on the issue. Far too many shills these days.

Great points were made. Honestly I expected issues at release. I never expect the mycareer stuff to work 100% out the gate.
It's a bad look when extra money is involved to upgrade your player and the mechanics, such as badges, have glitches or bugs.
I expect things will be tuned in the long run but since this doesn't result in loss of money for the company the fix may not come immediately.
On the other hand, the system may be working as the company intended.

In any case, this is all good information for those of us still holding out on this version of the game.
This allows us to make a better decision about getting the game on sale or possibly not getting the game at all.

Based on Zach Timmerman's comments on X/Twitter and Reddit, it does sound like they'll be making some adjustments to the Badges. I do think regression will turn out to be a bad idea though, especially online where it's going to promote selfish play to keep your Badges. Also, as you alluded to, when a concept is tied into the recurrent revenue mechanics, profits are going to take precedent over fairness to the consumer.

Ngl, I didn't think they'd DARE put these floor setters to lvl 21 and 40. That's a blatant money grab if I've ever seen one. I'd bet that most people barely reach lvl 25 in a season. And that's if they only play one mode.

They were definitely bold about it, and it's getting some backlash. Quite a few people over on Reddit have apparently been getting refunds, and the negative user reviews are out there. It remains to be seen how much of an impact it will have, but it's admirable that people are speaking out and voting with their wallets (even retroactively, as the case may be).
