This vs. other NBA 2K titles and retro rosters

Postby Leander on Fri Feb 10, 2023 11:22 am

How does this compare to other NBA 2K titles regarding retro rosters? I am mostly interested in 90s basketball (93/94 season etc.).

I already have NBA 2k9, 13, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20...

2K23 on PS5 and XBox Series X/S looks amazing for retro rosters ('80s, '90s, and '00s) because of the MyEras game mode. Basically lets you start off a league mode in the '83-'84, '91-'92, or '02-'03 seasons with pretty well fleshed-out rosters for each team, minus some major players they didn't buy the rights for (Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley).

So, if you have a ninth-generation console, 2K23 is your best bet.

Thanks! Can you only start a league in the seasons you mentioned or any year, e.g. 1994-1995?
I only have my PC, a Nintendo Switch and SNES Mini...this mode isn't available for PC, is it?

Does buying 2K23 for PC make sense? I spent some hours on a 1994-1995 roster for 2K20 and wonder if I can use it for 2K23, but doubt it.

How good are the MyEra rosters? The retro teams of previous 2K titles only had real star players, but filled with generic fake players...so not even 10 real players per team.
Are all teams available (e.g. 91-92) or just a bunch of them?

You can only start in specific years. I think it's '83-'84, '91-'92, and '02-'03. There might be one for the 2010s, too. Not sure.

Unfortunately not.

I haven't been convinced yet. I'm living the MyEra life vicariously through Twitch streamers, and that mode is the only thing that would convince me personally to buy the game.

This website has a list of all the players present and missing from the official MyEra rosters, I believe there's been good work done by the community to flesh out the teams on unofficial rosters.

The main thing, more than the rosters themselves (which are still full of missing players, some of whom are very notable), that has impressed me watching MyEra streams is how 2K automatically handles all the rebranding and rule changes as the years go by. That alone would save so much hassle from my previous attempts at "redoing" NBA history. Almost enough to make me consider saving up for a PS5, but for now I'm in the same boat as you, stuck with 2K20 on PC.

Thank you!

I have some mods and a modified roster...don't know who made it, but I spent hours to include more players...by copying their DNA...so every team has 9-12 real players...the rest and also teams that did not exist back then are filled with low-rated fillers.
