I always play on All-star. I feel like the differentiation between good and great players kind of diminishes as you approach the extremes (either Rookie or Hall of Fame). On HoF, CPU ratings are increased across the board, but since there is a 99 cap for each attribute, Steph Curry for example will get only a little better on 3 pointers while Draymond will get much better. To me, All-star strikes a good balance in that aspect, since the attributes do not change as much.
To make the game more difficult, I prefer to increase CPU's offensive and defensive awareness to 100, while keeping the User's at 50. It makes CPU players play to their strengths, without boosting their attributes. Sometimes I even decrease the User's def. awareness to around 35-40, which makes my players dumber at the defensive end. This is kinda cool in my opinion, since it forces me to react to offball defensive mistakes and adjust them by myself, instead of focusing solely on onball D.
It is not as challenging as playing on HoF, but I like it better that way.
