I made a short video with current superstars CFs and retro/AT CFs
Some new retro CFs are good, some are TERRIBLE !

It feels almost random how they approached which CF to update "well" and which ones got done in a hurry.

That may be the worst Larry Bird face to date.

The retro faces are particularly bad, there's a lot of poor ports/updates in there. Major problems with conflicting normal maps.
I don't want to jump to conclusions, but some of it really looks like R4zoRs work. Just from the artstyle, with face textures looking very similar to some of his past faces, especially that Bird face. If that's the case, I'm kinda surprised. There's also another style in there, you see it in faces like Stockton/Kukoc/Longley. I think R4zoR worked on rookie faces at one point, so I imagine they don't get to dedicate much time to it.
Whoever is updating them, there's only a couple of artists doing it at most. You can just tell by looking at the art styles. Really disappointing that it's such a small focus by 2K, considering these faces are used in a lot of different aspects in the game. I recognise some cyberface ports that have been around since 2K11 and earlier. They seriously need a major overhaul...

Larry looks scary. Like he is scared, but also mad.

Since he joined 2K, a lot of his faces have the same kind of signature, with a "clay" nose (based on Longley and Hornacek he promoted on twitter for 2K21)
2K has been specially lazy with 2010's "retro" teams, using current ID/and look for active players.
