Shader settings comparison

long time no post here. This stuff has been bothering me for some time since playing NBA video game again on PC after staying on the consoles for the past years.

Can anybody tell me the difference between high and medium shader settings in game because I cannot tell the difference but the performance penalty is significant. I've scoured the internet but to no avail. hoping someone more knowledgeable on this topic could help me
