2K21 & next-gen GPUs

Talk about NBA 2K21 here.

2K21 & next-gen GPUs

Postby gyozalee on Sun Nov 01, 2020 6:32 am

next-gen GPUs being NVidia 3000 Series (3070, 3080 & 3090) or Radeon 6000 Series (6800, 6800XT & 6900XT); the latter are to be released in approx. 4 days as I wrote this post.

Question : have anyone recently upgraded your GPU to play NBA2K21 :?: and what's the performance/graphical improvement compared to its predecessor (the GPU you upgrading from) :?:

I upgraded from a AMD r9 280x (2013 GPU) to a Nvidia RTX 2070 Super last year in november. I was able to increase Resolution from Full HD to 4k and run the game on max settings on around 90-110 FPS in average.

Graphical improvement, besides the higher resolution, of course there is none, as 2k did not improve graphics since 2k15.

So what you wanna hear? With a new RTX 3000 or AMD 6000 series GPU you should increase the theoretical FPS amount even higher, but that won't really be noticable, especially online, where FPS are locked to 60.

PC will not have 2K21 next gen version.
So no need to upgrade your PC components if your PC gaming is recent.

It's interesting, because NBA 2K16 seems to be more graphically demanding....

Either way, this is the CPU I bought (I didnt buy it for 2K21, I bought it because I decided to upgrade in general)

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpower ... Id=6362428

I paid around $1100 for it and got a bigger SSD. I can run games in 4K (including NBA 2K21), and can run games like Monster Hunter World, Batman Arkham Knight, Witcher 3, Borderlands 3, etc on Ultra. I have not run into a game that I cant max out and get 60 fps (I play on a TV that cant go beyond 60 fps, and that's fine because 60 FPS is fantastic).

How future proof is it? Well, I personally think that if we get 2K22 on PC with PS5/Series X graphics, that I will be able to handle it just fine.

Because the CPU I showed above is out of stock now, my brother wanted to upgrade so he bought this one.

Again, he can run all games on Ultra with absolutely no framedrops/issues.... he loves it. The only problem with this one is it gets hot, which is why I have a slight advantage with mine. My temperatures are always solid with no issues.

I play on a Samsung 50 inch tv, he plays on a Vizio 50 inch tv, both with incredibly low input lag (we don't notice any delay AT ALL. All of my gameplay videos on my youtube channel are playing on TVs like the two I mentioned above. We use Xbox One Wirelss controllers... so basically we use our PCs like a console and play on the couch.

Either way, hope some of this helps. I have stuck with AMD ever since 2013, as they have not steered me wrong. I had an R9 270, followed by an R9 280x, followed by a 480, and now the 5700xt. Right now the 5700xt retails for around $400 by itself I believe.

240 GB SSD? That will be nearly full just with Windows + 1 "AAA" Game :D I think Call of Duty alone uses up close to 200 GB.

thanks guys for all your replies; i was toying with the idea of having the latest and the best-est .. 3070 .. but after reading all of your comments, seems that 2070 Super or 5700 XT (which was my preferred GPU pre RTX 3000 release) is adequate for current-gen and potentially it will also be more than enough for the next-gen (2K22). I understand the latter is just mere prediction as we don't know what is the recommended requirements for NBA 2K22.
