NBA 2K21 PC OLD GEN

Talk about NBA 2K21 here.

NBA 2K21 PC OLD GEN

Postby go7denboot on Sat Jun 27, 2020 5:58 am

As everytime 2k goes next-gen, PC version has to wait one year to go next-gen because they use that to push us to buy the new consoles and thats not acceptable even if its pure marketing. Now is the time to put pressure on them to include PC version for the next-gen version if you don't want to wait 1 year to get it and mod it. One way to do that is to not pre-order it until they announce it on next-gen. Now is the time to be respected as PC gamers

I am going to keep playing 2K20. So many mods and there are good rosters and draft classes now too. If 2K21 were to go next gen on PC most people would not be able to meet the system requirements and there would be way less modding in my opinion.

Alright, chill out.

First, the title is a clickbait. C'mon. I really thought I'd find some confirmation of that.

Second, 2K League is being played on PC for extra performance, ability to use whatever input device you fancy and finally standardised environment.
While the PS5/XBX might run the new game just fine I have my doubts about optimization, especially in the first next-gen title.
Ability of using whatever input device still may be an issue - while I think they may be doing a crossplay, this ties to last point - standardised environment. Maybe the game will run a bit better on PS5 than on XSX, in which case PS5 players in the 2K League would get an advantage. Again, same hardware would be good point for the League.

So overall there's actually a good chance to have next-gen release on PC since they're actually invested into PC to some extent with 2K League. It's not 100%, especially if crossplay is gonna be confirmed, but at the same time not out of the question.

@TGsoGood The modding part may be true but Im really tired of the lame **s unrealistic gameplay physics that was good 5 years ago I cant play it another year. And with these RTX graphic cards on the market and the ones that will be release this fall, its not that expensive to upgrade your graphic cards. Better do it sooner than later rather than buy a PS5 to play 2k21 only for one year like a lot of the pc gamer will do.

@ThePointForward thats the whole point of my thread its not confirmed yet that PC isnt next-gen so the PC community have to push now. Your 2kleague point will not be enough to make them port it on PC because as the league is run by 2k themself its more than possible for them to run the PS5 version on a PS5 by a PC. And since 2k collab with playstation, there is too much money on the line to put next-gen on PC if there is no significant reason(s) to do it

They didnt even bother to update Lillard's scan so its useless to hope for gameplay improvements in current-gen. And they'll still have the audacity to sell it 70$ on PC.

Not sure if there's much truth to this but yyy2k on the NBA2K reddit had this to say about next gen on PC. He is a moderator on the subreddit and has insider information into the upcoming game.

Already mentioned it in the cover athlete thread, but since pre-orders are going up tomorrow we'll know 100% then.

Also lmao at -5 voting from you.

Yeah probably. yyy2k and I have had some grievances in the past over some petty shit. He seems like a decent mod overall though, it was quite some time ago.

Not the news we were hoping for, but as I mentioned in another topic, there are some potential upsides. I figured there was a pretty good chance it was going to be Current Gen, so I'd already braced myself to hear that.

Though, thinking about it - there's still a chance that current gen and next gen will have same or very similar feature set.The next gen will obviously look better, but the question is if there will be improvements yet taking full advantage of the hardware (games usually do this earliest at like half into the lifetime of consoles).

Indeed. Also consider that NBA 2K14 on PS4/X1 played very much like NBA 2K14 on PC/PS3/360 and had many of the same legacy issues, despite the new Eco-Motion engine. That's not to downplay graphical improvements as I know they're important to most people, but new tech didn't eradicate all the old problems the last time we had a generation jump. There's no guarantee that Next Gen will be a markedly better experience on the sticks.

according to the editions breakdown, new gameplay features are only on next-gen and even worst than that PC will not have full game modes. Basically they sell a roster update for 60$ on current gen. And unlike other upcoming games like madden u need to pay more to get the PS5 version when u buy it on PS4. 2K doesnt have any respect for the players anymore their only goal is money

The news doesn't seem that bad to me. The only down part for me is that we will not even have updated roster until after October.
Free Agency and the draft are in October this year. Honestly most people should just stick with 2K20 on PC unless they make quite a few changes.

+1

I totally agree with you , actually the only option for me to buy this game is only in special sales and I'm not sure about that either.

the decision to boycott PC in 2020 is outdated and silly.

I honestly think this is the play. I’m gonna pour massive resources into a 20-21 roster with draft classes and just play out this generation on 2k20. I don’t see them revamping the gameplay much to 2k21.

Good news for me: nba 2k21 will basically just be a roster update for PC, but my computer will be able to play the game. So I can squeeze one last year out of 2k without upgrading.

Bad news: The draft sucks this year, and there are no big name free agents (plus who knows if there will even be a season). So it's just $60 for a roster update. :|

I was expecting this... just because it is a good buisness decision for 2k sports for a variety of reasons.

first, not many people have the hardware to run next gen graphics. I am very excited for the next gen consoles... just for the stories that could be told. I mean... take a look at the new Ratchet and Clank https://www.ign.com/articles/ps5-ratche ... rift-apart .... this is just the start of the next generation... who knows what limits they can push in 3 to 5 years.

but, quickly glancing at steam hardware survey (yes, it does have it flaws) here is the results for june 2020

Code: Select all
2060  2.53
2070  1.85
2070s 1.60
2080  0.98
2060s 0.97
2080t 0.89
2080s 0.64

9.47

1060  11.73
1050t 8.34
1050  5.31
1070  4.05
1080  2.48
1080t 1.58
1070t 1.10

34.59

1650  2.99
1660t 2.71
1660  1.64
1660s 0.94

8.28

only 9.47 are running the 20xx series while 42.87 are running 10xx or 16xx series
34.59 + 8.28 = 42.87

now, why release a game that 42% people cannot run. and that is not even discounting the folks playing on even lower gpu capabilities... very few people wanted to be part of Nvidia's 20xx guinea pig test benchmark ... especially at those ridiculous prices... most (42% or more) people are holding out for some more reasonable/ powerful/ properly priced GPU's

lastly, nvidia and amd are going to launch their next gen gpu next fall.... but with production down all accross Asia from Covid ... even at properly priced gpu ... both nvidia and amd will not be able to meet demand... because of the manufacturing delays in Asia.... so GPU's are just going to be sold out on launch and the supply will be slow... very slow... with most people getting gpu's anywhere from feb to June.

i find this 2k21 pc decision acceptable and understandable.... more than the 2k14 pc last gen which was just a slap in the face ... but it also became the most modded game longevity wise--due to established tools being availabe.

of course, i won't be buying 2k21... they might be able to smooth some gameplay elements (like how 2k20 smoothed some 2k19 flaws)... but just too many legacy issues.
Personally, i'm more excited for the next nba live game... NBA Live (whether released 2021 or 2022) is going to knock it out of the park (in a good way). hopefully EA will bring it back to PC... if they do, i'd jump ship instantly.

All of this is understandable but not acceptable. Once again, the reason why we have current gen on PC is purely money. Of course this is not the end of the world and there is some kind of logic pattern to explain that but I see two points that needs to be in mind :

- Making a game with money on purpose is definitely not good news, especially for players. It brings shitty ideas like VC's, MyPark Idiots Festivals and more. I remember that I started playing 2k's because they used to make games with passion, that bring good games with good ideas and gameplay like 2K11.

- Second point and very important in my opinion. Current gen on PC means that 2k have absolutely no interest in the modding community and modders. That is very not the same with all games dev teams. Modders are priceless in all aspects for a video game and 2k knows that (Think about R4zor). This is why I think PC player's frustration is justified.

I'm not saying that we PC players have to be full of hate about that. I'm saying that we can't start to accept or admire an economic strategy that buried the passion a studio once had.

Ray tracing capabilities are irrelevant.

First of all, many people, myself included, are about to upgrade with this year's offering - whether RTX 30 series or whatever AMD will name their cards - to have same capabilities consoles have.

Second, the whole point of gaming on PC is that you can adjust various settings. So instead of "only 10% of Steam users can play this" it should be "here's how you turn ray tracing on/off".

We can discuss all the technical differences, hardware availability, etc. What confuses me the most, is why the Mamba Forever edition has the same price gap as consoles but with no upgrade. If PC won't get an upgrade anytime in the game lifetime then at least cut the price to reflect it.

Just because someone has the 10xx or 16xx series doesn't mean he wouldn't be able to run the game. Remember 2k15 (first current gen game)? Most people that were able to run 2k14 (old gen) were still able to run 2k15. They had to decrease graphics settings to a minimum, play on a less than native resolution, but they were able to run it.
