So you buy into this league? And then pay more money if you want your players attributes raised? Am I reading this right? And you don’t even play, your player just gets simmed in a game? Surly nobody is dumb enough to pump money into this and that’s why you keep bumping it for advertising.

I can’t say I’ve ever seen a MyLeague fan group with microtransactions. That’s a new level.

I have 125+ people in my community Some play for free, some pay. Its all based on the experience you want to have. What you fail to realize is that I broadcast the games, i keep stats on every player, I pay for a URL and will be paying for an offsite stats website soon for this season. So I put back money into the league. And oh the countless hours that I put into the league running it, broadcasting it 4-5x a week (EVERY GAME) with play by play. If you didnt like it you could have just left well enough alone. Don't think it was necessary to bash it just because you felt like you felt slighted or didnt agree with it.

You dont like it....then just move on. No need to bash my dude. There are many leagues out there (sim leagues) that do this. I am not the only one. Might be the only one for hoops but certainly there are many like this.

Keep in mind....you only pay if you choose to, there are free players and if it isn't for you move along without making assumptions.

Just seems odd that the actual people creating mods can’t charge for them but yet you can put together a league using their assets and charge people to join. Hopefully the mods can weigh in because this seems like a pretty sketchy operation. Paying for attribute upgrades or to wear different shoes. Yikes. What’s the difference between that And charging for mods?

By the way Rob Davis is VERY much well aware of us using his College MOD this way. You can ask him personally if you don't believe me. You can find him in my discord. I have had over a 100 conversations with him because he has shown me how to MOD. We talk almost weekly to some degree. I am not ducking any sense of responsibility here at all on that. I also credit Rob Davis in every post giving him credit for his incredible college mod. Both on my website and any social media posts. So I've already talked to him about it. He is completely fine with it.... there should be no issues.

And I appreciate that fact. Credit is important. I’m just saying payment in general is usually frowned upon. If the mods think this type of content is allowed then I think people having a combination of free/paid mods is fine. Either way, content is being hidden behind a paywall. There was a previous user who left because he received criticism due to keeping some content behind a donation paywall.

I just don’t see a difference. You’re essentially selling a product here. Sure, it’s “free to play” just like a mobile game but you offer “microtransactions”. You’re having people pay to play 2k. That’s the type of thing that gets places like the NLSC shutdown.

Well if i need to remove the post here....I can. I hear what your saying. I dont necessarily agree. But im not going to fight with you about it. They are not being charged to use the mods. This would be no different if i used NBA stuff either. Same model Those are part of the game and have nothing to with the mod. The only thing im using from the MODS are Teams, Jerseys, & Arenas by Rob. And there is no COST for it. No cost to the player to use them because its free to play and be a part of and everyone get it no matter what, everyone is part of a team. The cost is behind attributes.. So it might be a fine line. But at the end of the day they're not paying for the MODs. So as far as im concerned no harm no foul.

I am not using MODDED shoes to sell. I am not selling modded jerseys or teams for guys to use. $ is on attributes only and shoes that the game supplies that adds attributes.. I hear ya...but im on the right side of the fine line ....at least IMO I am. And like I said Rob is aware I use his MOD for this.

I didn’t really want it removed. More so for a moderator to weigh in on where this stands because I think it opens up avenues for modders to charge. All good either way.

I know I'm late in getting to this - sorry about that! - but I'll chime in so that we can clear the air and have a ruling that we can move forward with.

The tricky thing here is that we don't really have a specific rule that covers the situation exactly. It's not really akin to charging for mods, so it's not covered by that rule. It's more like holding a video game tournament and charging an entry fee that covers administrative costs and possibly provides a prize pool. Generally speaking that'd be OK, as long as the cost isn't extortionate and everything is made clear.

My concern here is with the freemium-style aspects of the league, which are potentially misleading. Even if they're clear, it's not really something I'm keen to endorse or provide a platform for, as I've been critical of microtransactions and the like in both my content and in discussions here in the Forum. At best, I don't think it's something that would get a lot of traction or enthusiastic support here, and while I can definitely sympathise with wanting to cover costs and the like, I'm not really a fan of that particular method.

At the very least, it's something that goes against the spirit of the community, if not any specific rule. To that end, I'll have to say that upon review and further consideration, it's not something we can allow while also criticising the approach and business model elsewhere. It's difficult to have a rule in place beyond a general "advertising on our platform is at our discretion on a case-by-case basis", which is something I could possibly make clearer for the future. Again, I get the motivation behind it and do trust that there's no malicious intent or anything like that, but all things considered, I'd have to rule against it. I definitely do appreciate you preemptively removing the post and wanting to respect the rules and community. No harm, no foul.
