Stadium Lighting PostEffect.FxTweakables Tutorial/Discussion

Postby bongo88 on Mon Sep 17, 2018 7:55 pm

Howdy everybody.
Notice: apologize for the large image sizes.
I noticed michaelvlutz49 made a stadium lighting mod and it reminded me of a tutorial i never got around to making. Anyways, not sure how he added the haze effect (hope he creates a tutorial about the haze effect).
I took a look at his posteffect.FxTweakables edits and couldn't find any new discoveries (that i could see compared to my notes), so i decided to throw this together this tutorial to discuss stadium lighting.
I still do not own 2k19. I grabbed the original 2k19 posteffect.FxTweakables from a stadium mod here, tossed it into my 2k18 game into the jazz stadium (s012) and threw together this short tutorial.

For full disclosure, In the pictures below, i believe i have crowd data from 2k17. Jazz stadium/floor texture made by amarowade, and dunno what global i got running.

PostEffect.FxTweakables Hex Offsets
WhiteBalance/Luminosity: Hex offset = 00000180 [2k19 original 4600]
brightness: hex offset = 0000015c [2k19 original 0.90]
Contrast/saturation: hex offset= 000001a4 [2k19 original 0.15]
Bloom: hex offset = 00000114 Controls bloom of ceiling lights.... maybe player light reflection(not sure about that)... ceiling lights for sure.

PNG hex comparison:
Image

side note: there's lots of color rgb that can be changed in arena.scn with notepad. image link. haven't fiddled much with them. they make drastic color changes to stadium lighting. i usually just left them default rgb.

Ok. so we are going to change stadium lighting from a warm tone to a more fluorescent tone. example pictures below.

2k19 default PostEffect.FxTweakables Edit: game is 2k18.... lighting is from 2k19 (PostEffect.FxTweakables)

2k19 edited PostEffect.FxTweakables Edit: game is 2k18.... lighting is from 2k19 (PostEffect.FxTweakables)

Tutorial process
Now, this image is default 2k19 PostEffect.FxTweakables . Just for base reference. Edit: game is 2k18.... lighting is from 2k19 (PostEffect.FxTweakables)
Image

First, i edit the White Balance/Luminosity
the white balance/luminosity has a range about the same as this picture: https://static.bhphotovideo.com/explora ... cale-2.jpg
2k19 default is 4600 (warm yellow color) I changed it to 3500 (more blue/white fluorescent color)
I did not change the floor color. changing the luminoscity changes the lighting of the floor. Floor texture not touched.
Image

Second, i increased the brightness just a tad.
2k19 original brightness is 0.90. I increased it to 1.4
Floor texture not changed.
Image

Third, I increased the contrast of the stadium. 2k19 original has a value of 0.15. I increased it to 0.23
Again, floor texture not changed.
Image

Finally, I made a quick floor texture edit. The Floor texture was made by amarrowad and is untouched through this whole process. I just grabbed his texture and went into photoshop and messed with brightness/contrast sliders.
Floor coloring is not perfect. Just showing in the tutorial that, if changing stadium lighting, a floor texture needs to be built for that specific lighting.
Image

Does it look like the real jazz stadium floor?
Image

Not really :) :cheeky: :cheeky: :) Just threw this together for the tutorial. I would probably make the luminoscity more warm than fluorescent.

Anyways, this is more for the floor/stadium builders, if they want to fiddle with the stadium luminoscity.
With a unique PostEffect.FxTweakable each stadium could have a unique lighting.
Hopefully michaelvlutz49 will share some of his finding here (or correct me on any wrong points.) Anyways, this might be useful to change luminoscity/ brightness of stadiums. i know the celtics, in particular, has a more flourescent feel to it.
Have a good day.

EDIT

Just showing you the White Balance/Luminosity range of colors. As mentioned before, they correspond to this chart: https://static.bhphotovideo.com/explora ... cale-2.jpg
The last picture above.... i kept the same values for brightness/contrast. Also using the messed up floor texture that was used in the last picture above.
Only changed the White Balance/Luminosity in hex to show the range of colors.

album link: https://imgur.com/a/85JVvVI

not gonna embed all the photos. Just take a gander at the different hex values. They are listed in the bottom right corner of each image.

here's a video (no sound) about working with the Float in Data inspector window

https://streamable.com/v63aw

by using the Float Value, you can think of stuff in whole numbers. so if contrast is 1.09 ... then increase it to 1.20 .... or decrease it to 0.8
or if white balance/luminosity is 4800.0000 .... then change to 4200.0000 or 3600.000 or 5800.000.... or whatever number.

with small numbers (1.0 or 0.8 or 0.5 etc ) usually a small change is all that's required. so changing contrast from 1.09 to 1.18 will change bunch of stuff. changing 1.09 to 18.4 will make a very very large change. that usually the rule with small numbers.

oh, forgot about data inspector video
https://streamable.com/q08vi

the yellow fog stuffs all appear to be same whole number. so maybe change all yellow fogs to same whole number. haven't had time to fiddle with those yellow fog stuffs.

same hex technique for moving around scoreboard hex stuffs
EDIT2:

Attached below is more information. Contains a different guide png as well as specific PostEffect.FxTweakables to be used with that guide. Hopefully michaelvlutz49 will stop by with more information.

Great thread, thanx bongo for the share (Y)

with my custom reshade, I came to the same conclusion : (most of the) floors are too bright and have to be adjusted.

You should check Miami court / effects : this arena has the best lighting this year IMO

(warm yellow color)

in my opinion I think that the fog is perfect, only to remove the pink tone, a question can be placed the fog with default lighting of the stadium?

No problem. It's been tucked in a folder for a while. Was gonna make a tutorial earlier, but things got busy. jogged to memory by michaelvlutz49 posts. had to run a comparisons on his PostEffect.Fx files to find the important hex locations :) i forgot them :)
michaelvlutz49 made even more edits to the PostEffect.Fx file .... that i dont understand. Bloody Brilliant modder.
Hopefuly michaelvlutz49 stops by with more information.

Also, i updated the Original Post with a new album about white balance/luminosity. Check it out.

Have a good day

In your first post, you state that the image below is of default 2K19. Where did the scoreboard come from? I didn't know anybody created one yet.

sorry, seemed clear to me. Will edit the first post. I grabbed the 2k19 posteffect.FxTweakables and put it into my 2k18 Jazz Stadium (s012). Screenshot is of 2k18 showing lighting tweaks.
2k19 default PostEffect.FxTweakables

Hope that's more clear.... it's 2k18 with the 2k19 default PostEffect.FxTweakables. 2k18 and 2k19 posteffect.FxTweakables are slightly different. Stadium makers might want to use it as a resource.
Scoreboards don't direct convert. Dirtydraw checked on that. Scoreboards gonna have to be built from scratch.

Anyways, just made the tutorial real quick before i forgot about it. Incase the stadium makers want to tweak lighting.
I did make some red-devil fog the other day. haha.
Image

Anyways, attached to the bottom of this post is more information about stadium lighting. PostEffect.FxTweakables. contains a new guide and specific PostEffect.FxTweakables to be used with that guide. michaelvlutz49 dug them up from somewhere.... maybe he'll stop by.

thanx bongo, i try to tweak the postfx file, but i'm lost

FYI it seems that Michael didnt use original 2K19 file, his files are shorter.

He also released years ago a similar job on 2K17 but not identical ; btw some words can be found in the files :

Thanks for the videos (Y) i'm gonna try, again :)

BTW 2K and Michael use the same PostEffect.FxTweakables for all arenas, but render differs
As you mentioned it, arena.scn has a huge impact and unfortunately each court has his own file his own structure.
