Anyone still play this? imo, it's quietly been the best mode this year, between the over-generosity of the locker codes, Triple Threat, historic player selection and affordable market prices. Some crazy stuff going down these days: you can pick up an Amethyst Luol Deng for under 3K, and a Diamond Artis Gilmore for 15. Just between the last couple of days I've gotten a free Amethyst Vince Carter and free Pink Diamond LeBron for just entering locker codes at my leisure (the Carter was a ball drop [which I literally found out there is another of as I am typing this], but I was able to get LeBron automatically yesterday).

So going into 2K19 I thought I was gonna play MyLeague primarily and Playground secondarily, but I've actually spent the most time in MyTeam of anything; it's got it all: the fantasy aspect of managing a team, and 3v3 gameplay (in a cool casino environment) without whining/dumb teammates.

So I want to ask: when you guys are playing a fantasy mode like MyTeam, do you typically go for the best available players or your favorites? Oddly enough, I find that I do better with my favorite players, regardless of their rating; for instance, I went on a three-game win streak with a freakin' Emerald Yi Jianlian as my starting PF, and was averaging like 29 PPG with him (playing the entire game). I even paired him with Ruby Yao (another amazing affordable card) for the Great Wall. Fast forward to me creating a best-available lineup around my new PD LeBron and I lose - I think they match you up with similar team overalls, so if you're a veteran/skilled you're almost better off going with a bad lineup because chances are you'll get matched up with a noob (or at least someone who isn't going to spam steal all game and get rewarded for it).

Worth noting that 2K has since reimbursed people who used Diamond shoes or contracts on the card and had them go to waste when it was removed. As I said in my article, removing the card was understandable but could've been handled better, and does underline a problem 2K has with transparency and communication, not to mention being quick to fix problems that affect them and slow to fix problems that affect gamers. Anyway, I'm glad they're addressing the issue.

Also, it's very commendable that they've gone ahead and dropped a couple of generous Locker Codes in the face of the backlash. I mean, the generosity is only because of the mistake, mishandling, and backlash, but they have stepped up so hats off for that. The codes are as follows:

Got PD Allen Iverson on PS4, and PD Blake Griffin on PC. 40,000 MT on PS4, 25,000 MT on PC. Generally speaking, I've had decent luck with the Locker Codes as well, though also quite a few 1 Token/100 MT drops as well.

Now that I've ground my way up to 90 Overall in MyCAREER and prepped my player for some team Pro-Am in the New Year, I expect I'll spend some more time in MyTEAM and MyLEAGUE. Thanks to Locker Codes, pre-order bonuses, and completing a few challenges here and there (including unlocking the Auction House on both platforms), I've got a decent lineup out of the gate. It's a lot better than previous years in that regard.

I got Magic and auctioned him off to get Blake; I play Blake at SF and dropped 40 with him in a 30-point Unlimited win. Usually I play sim, but today I got bored and assembled the ultimate cheese squad consisting of LeBron at PG, Elie/Dunleavy at SG (any marksman), Blake and Manute/Bradley as my bigs... pure cheese. The commodity of Blake at SF is since he has an A+ in mid, inside and outside scoring, you can essentially just iso him at the three-point line; if they bite you drive and poster, and if they sag you pop the triple.

I've had Hedo multiple times; his release is so quick that I can hardly green with him (contrary to him having a slow release irl). Some of the releases are straight trash, like Nash's.

I always struggle with if I want to buy the best available players or ones I actually like. The best team I was ever able to afford was Iverson, PD Harden, Ben Wallace and I had a bunch of cards up on the block that I probably could've afforded Gilmore and another Diamond with, or even rounded it out with the Amy budget beast Deng. I've also thought about completing collections, but talk about a royal waste of MT.

Totally odd, cause he really had a set shot irl; it's so unrealistic that I'm pretty sure the devs just didn't care or never watched him play. They also gave Arenas a lightning-quick release like that (for better or worse).

I'd definitely like to have a Prime MJ with better shooting, but he's adept at finishing inside (to say the least) and solid from midrange, so I'll let other players in the lineup take care of the ranged attack.

Some guy just ran Turkoglu at point against me and scored 82 on 26-40 threes. Played the entire game and fatigue had no effect. Shot contests have no effect either; game is broken in its current state. Time to go back to MyCareer (as if that's any better).

The best part is he was hiding behind a 59 OVR team; I'll give him props for at least utilizing the Yi Jianlian Emerald in his starting five.

I at least give them credit for all the free shit they give away via locker codes, and I'll just counteract with my own cheese lineup of LBJ at point, PD Griffin at SF and Bradley and Bol in the middle. Might pick up Ruby Arenas as my SG just for sentimental reasons, but yeah, I've lost a shit ton of MT from using the auction house too much with that 10% tax... what bullshit; for a fuckin' video game.

The Silvers are 10K easy; it's ludicrous. Unless you really want it, it's not a good investment at all: in addition to completing a collection, you also have to collect 500 cards ('Captain' collector level), which to a simpleton as myself is simply unattainable. The market has currently crashed because of all the Pink Diamond locker codes, so right now I'm going to say that you could acquire a Pink Diamond starting five (and maybe even more) for the price it would take to achieve 'Captain'. You would net hella tokens for completing collections in the process though, but yeah; lowkey the 500 cards is worse than winning the one Unlimited game to unlock the auction house, but no one talks about that for some reason.

I also never save any cards that I don't actually use, so yeah; total pipe dream for me.

Good point. I suppose it's because the Auction House is a prominent feature (and indeed, basic functionality) more so than a reward to unlock and also available at a lower tier, so it's a sorer point for people who likewise figure they won't come close to getting 500 cards.

Ilgauskas is about to become the next Turkoglu with that 3PT rating; literally two of the most uncool players are becoming overpowered demigods. Dude shot 31-99 threes in twelve seasons with the Cavs and they gave him a 92 open/90 contested three. MyTEAM developers have never watched basketball. I wonder if he jumps 20 feet in the air on his shot like Turkoglu; Turkoglu had a set shot, Z literally didn't leave the floor.

I like the whole "player on their best day" approach (and that they've stopped making those cards 99 Overall), but it definitely is silly when they have exaggerated ratings like that.
