New design (it looks a lot bigger), new mini-games, and probably more ways to make you spend VC. I can appreciate the work that went into it, but I'm a grumpy old man of 33. I just want a menu and a streamlined experience.

Ok so after re-watching this my feelings changed.
I don't necessarily want any of this, I feel like this is a complete waste of time when the gameplay could have been improved. Saying that I understand why they have done it with how much money they make from it
But I feel like this wont be that bad whilst playing it because TBH I'll just ignore 90% of it. I just like playing games and watching the cutscenes. Hopefully all this other stuff doesn't effect me and isn't needed at all for mycareer.

Hi there. I'm totally agree with this. Maybe it's a waste of time for developing nor playing but I don't care 'till all this stuff doesn't bother me from playing MyCAREER (like running after each game: training centre->gym->Juice man->training centre).

Well, I knew this wasn't gonna excite me...
Just hoping that if I do end up getting the game the game will load in real time, not hindered by waiting for servers like last year.

Some screengrabs:

Looking at the wheel looks like besides VC (which will still be most sought after probably), you can get fans, various gear boosts, and these "MyPoints".
Side note: really hope this will be one in a session thing and you'll have to wait until 50 other players spin the wheel.
Image
Turns out "MyPoints" are just the thing that contributes towards cap breakers.
Image
This thing hasn't changed either, so your OVR is still gonna be based on number of boxes purchased. Also love how they didn't show the bottom with prices.
BTW Andrew, pretty sure FT rating is still completely based on badge this year again.

It does seem like a really good year to go back to franchise gaming. That pretty much sums up my thoughts on everything.

It seems like a good year for player-lock "MyCareer" in MyLeague to be honest.

Nah, I'm afraid they actually listened well to their target audience. It just happens we aren't it.
Apparently they had a survey and found out many players quit after a month or two and picked up Fortnite or PUBG. Guess what, these are the same players willing to spend cash on cosmetics.

So 2K was like "hold my beer" and added Fortnite into NBA 2K.

As a side note, this tweet didn't age well:

The funny thing is that Tweet looked bad within 24 hours, as it was immediately followed by a blog about shoes. However, it's only continued to age badly since then.

Holy cow, when Live is steadily improving, 2K always has to go and blow them out of the water, but how did they release a trailer where the audio quality degrades and is out of sync?

I'm not necessarily under the belief that just because they spent time on this it took away from gameplay; it's just like in Smash Bros. when people get upset because they think clone characters took development time away from a unique character... it's more of a take it or leave it thing.

Different groups within the team work on different aspects of the game, so I agree it doesn't necessarily mean anything bad for gameplay. Whether it's an improvement or not depends on whether you're on board with the direction of MyCAREER, though. For some, it's moving it too far away from the virtual hardwood, and adding things they don't want to have to deal with. If so, NBA Live's more straightforward approach, less intrusive story, and lack of microtransactions, remains the more appealing approach, even if NBA 2K's approach is more ambitious.

2k18 made them the most money for them then other game and the majority of that came from vc purchases in mycareer and myteam
So they learnt from that success and built appon it to make more money which is what a business is suppose to do
Don't get me wrong I hate it but if we were all in 2k's shoes and getting that money we would have done the exact same thing

When it comes down to it, there's still that core basketball experience (especially if you have nothing to do with MyCAREER), but yeah, big chunks of the game have drifted a long way from the virtual hardwood.

Follow the money. Because those parts of the game certainly did. It's sadly not complicated why it's happening.

We see that in other games too to be honest.
Big example can be Battlefield V - while EA and gaming media tried to play it off as gamers being sexist, the truth is that they too went further than ever with non-sense cosmetics and the purpose is clear - to cash in on the "fortnite" trend.

Waiting for the day you can visit the NBA 2k TV set and beat Jao one on one in an epic boss battle

And then Fortnite dance all over him

:facepalm2: they just had to add emotes smh

I do think the neighborhood it’s self is more of a mini game than anything it’s kind of like a place were the virtual hardwood is totally forgotten

Da_Czar said on OS that without all the kiddy stuff like Neighborhood and Park and VC they would not be able to survive with same # of people on MyLeague, gameplay, AI etc. So this is what we put up with so we could get amazing MyLeague and according to impressions vastly improved gameplay as well. Because if they lost this revenue and stopped building the things that bring recurring revenue they'd have to fire many of the talented devs that work on stuff we're interested in.
