All this progress is mind blowing! Keep up the amazing work.
Converting all the new rookies cf's to 2k17 is something I can't wait to do!

This is something I was thinking about, but we have to get the 3D hair figured out first. Even if it means just using hair from other players in 2K17 and not converting the exact 2K18 hair.
I was thinking of converting rookies to add to my draft roster.

An update on 3D hair in 2K17 - I showed my brother (a software engineer) the files for 2K18 as compared to 2K17 and told him what our end goal was and he said converting 2K18 hair to 2K17 won't work. However, he did say that there is a good chance swapping hair in 2K17 will work. We should turn our focus to 2K17 hair now.

As it turns out, the fundamental issue is still the same as it is for 2K18 hair, even though the formatting is different. You are taking the body model from one scene file and the 3D hair from another scene file. And exporting 2 files (or objects) together is not allowed. Copying in the "Prim" and "Shader" sections of the hair model into the .SCNE file does nothing, nor does any other sort of renaming or tinkering with the hihead.SCNE file.
You either have to somehow reference TWO .model files in the hihead.SCNE or you have to find a way to combine the two .model files in blender AND actually get the combined file to export as one single .model file. I am out of ideas so I am going to put this one to rest for now.
It could still be possible - I'm not going to say I have the knowledge to make that determination that it is not doable. If anyone else wants to give it a try, go for it. Especially if there is anyone with advanced knowledge in blender or who understands metadata. The one good thing is that since the problem is the same for applying 2K17 and 2K18 hair to players converted to 2K17, I think figuring it out would enable us to use hair from both games. It looks like all-or-nothing.
